UNLV hired Athletics Director Tina Kunzer-Murphy, removing the interim tag she’s held since taking over the position July 1. Kunzer-Murphy is the first female, and first UNLV alum, to head university athletics. The three year contract begins January 1st, 2014. Before joining UNLV, Kunzer-Murphy spent twelve years as the executive director of the Las Vegas Bowl for ESPN Regional Television Inc. She also served as general manager for ESPN Regional’s corporate sales office.

Florida Southern Director of Athletics Pete Meyer has announced the addition of Drew Howard to the Moccasins athletic department staff as the school’s Assistant Athletic Director for NCAA Compliance.
TEMPLE UNIVERSITY
Temple University confirmed today that it is dropping seven sports in 2014 in an effort to concentrate on its Olympic sports programs. The school is shutting down baseball, softball, men’s crew, men’s gymnastics, men’s outdoor and indoor track and field, women’s softball and women’s rowing, affecting 150 students and nine full-time coaches.

The search for a new athletic director has been narrowed to four candidates; Robert C. Heller (Central Michigan associate AD), Richard R. Schoeberl (assistant AD at UT-Martin), Julio Freire (UNLV associate AD), and Tim M. Val Alstin (former Western Illinois AD). All candidates will interview by the 17th. Current athletic director Phil Dane is scheduled to retire December 31.

Central Washington’s search for a head football coach has been reduced to 10 prospects, athletic director Dennis Francois said the university remains on schedule to have a coach in place by Jan. 1

UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO BOULDER
CU has green-lighted $143 million in upgrades to athletic facilities in Boulder; however that project, has raised only $10 million as seed money. The seed-money goal for the $143 million project was $50 million by December. Plenty of work to do in Boulder.

Former Athletic Director Jan Stuebbe passed away at the age of 62 on Nov. 30 after his battle with cancer. Stuebbe held the position of BC athletic director for 11 years, and many of the athletic staff are in agreement that Stuebbe was an amazing man who will be missed dearly.

UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO BOULDER
The school’s Board of Regents today approved a $140 million plan for athletic facility upgrades. The board voted 9-0 to support the plan.Among the improvements will be an expansion of the football locker room from 4,500 square feet to more than 16,000, and the construction of a 21,000-square-foot sports performance center that would be run in conjunction with the Anschutz Medical Center.

Tennessee has hired Brett Huebner as its chief financial officer and senior associate athletics director. He will be responsible for all financial management and business operations for Tennessee athletics. Huebner has been the South Florida athletic department’s chief financial officer since 2007.
DIVISION I ALABAMA UNIVERSITIES
Every public Division I university in Alabama experienced athletic spending per student-athlete grow at a faster rate than academic spending per normal student from 2007 to 2011. Even more intriguing, since 2007, the average increase in athletic spending is up 24% among all FBS schools; however, Division I universities in Alabama are blowing that average out of the water with an average increase in athletic spending up 37.75%
