AD Scoop has learned Assistant Athletic Director and senior woman administrator Karen Stromme has been elected chair of the NCAA Division II Management Council. Stromme will assume her new responsibilities at the conclusion of the January 2014 Convention. On a side note, Stromme is The winningest coach in Minnesota Duluth basketball history, and is in her 31st year with the Bulldog staff!

The AD Scoop is reporting that Director of Athletics Pat Chun has fired Florida Atlantic University’s head football coach Carl Pelini and defensive coordinator Pete Rekstis amid an investigation involving illegal drug use. Offensive coordinator Brian Wright has been named the interim coach. Pelini and Rekstis were apparently escorted from the building by police.

AD Scoop has learned Murray State has broke ground on Reagan Baseball Field renovations: First phase of the project includes 309 bleacher, 238 chairback seats. The 238 chairback seats are available for naming rights at $1,500 per seat. All naming proceeds are to be used for phase two of the facility enhancement, stadium lighting.

High-ranking college athletics officials gathered yesterday and are gathering today to discuss a new governance structure for the NCAA. It appears the Board of Directors favors a system in which a federation of big schools within Division I could make rules that allow them to use more of their resources, while other conferences can choose whether or not to follow suit.
As an example, if wealthier schools decided to deregulate how many meals they could feed athletes, smaller-revenue schools in Division I would theoretically be able to operate with the same freedom if they could afford it.
That shift would formalize the growing opinion within the NCAA that its rulebook shouldn’t be used to create the illusion of a level playing field.

AD Scoop has learned Northern Colorado has narrowed down its candidates for Director of Athletics to two. Darren Dunn, currently serves as the deputy athletics director at the University of Houston and Brandon Macneill, serves as the executive associate athletic director at Tulane University. Each Candidate will present in an open forum at the University on Thursday and Friday respectively.

AD Scoop has learned Notre Dame is looking for an Assistant Athletic Director, Monogram Club Executive Director responsible for the management of the Notre Dame Monogram Club’s staff. This includes generation of financial resources, budget construction and collaboration with the Club’s external Board of Directors.

AD Scoop has learned that The Big East has hired Amber Cox as Associate Commissioner for Women’s Basketball. Cox had been with the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA since 2005, becoming Chief Operating Officer in 2010 and president in 2011.

Last weekend’s game vs San Diego State was picked up unexpectedly by ESPN for $500k as well. The Bulldogs won 35-27 pushing their record to 7-0.
