AD Scoop has learned that Henderson State has introduced Shawn Jones as the university’s new director of athletics. He will begin in January. Jones comes to Henderson from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo., where he has served 13 years in the athletics department. Most recently, Jones served as the senior associate athletic director for external operations.
UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN
Twenty-five individuals have been named to the University of Wisconsin Athletic Department’s first Fan Advisory Council. 25 Badgers fans were chosen from nearly 800 applicants. The group will gather for its first meeting with UW Athletics officials on Monday, Nov. 25, at 6 p.m. in Heritage Hall at Camp Randall Stadium.

Football coach Terry Bowden has been given a two-year contract extension through the 2018 season. After going 1-11 in his first season, the Zips are currently 4-7 overall, 3-4 in the Mid-American Conference, winners of two straight and three out the last four, with a Nov. 29 game at home against the Toledo Rockets remaining.

Penn athletic director Steve Bilsky, a former All-Ivy guard who returned to his alma mater to lead the Quakers’ athletic department for nearly 20 years, will retire at the end of the 2013-14 academic year. “I am proud of our many achievements for which I would like to thank the coaches, staff and student-athletes whom I have had the honor and pleasure to represent,” Bilsky said in a statement. “My association with Penn over many decades is responsible for many of the wonderful personal and professional joys I have had in my life.”

Central Michigan extended the contract of Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Dave Heeke, as he signed a new four-year deal.The contract extends his employment with the university through Dec. 31, 2017. He will also receive a $20,000 raise from $225,334 to $245,000 annually.

AD Scoop has learned FSU quarterback Jameis Winston’s DNA matches a sample taken from the underwear of a woman who has accused him of sexual assault, according to an analysis report obtained by ESPN.com.

The National Association for Business Resources announced Wednesday (Nov. 20) that the University of Michigan Athletic Department has been named among the “National Best and Brightest Companies to Work For.”
PASADENA CITY COLLEGE
PCC has named Tony Barbone as the school’s newest athletic director and he will take over the position early next year. Barbone is currently finishing his fall semester as El Camino College’s athletic director, where he has held the position since 2009.
LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY
LSU has launched the “Tradition Matters” campaign in an attempt to bring back some of the fan favorite songs. LSU officials, along with the football team and coaching staff, are asking the student section to refrain from using profanity and distasteful lyrics when these songs are played. “Our student section and the atmosphere they create make Tiger Stadium the best place for a college football game and gives us a tremendous home field advantage,” LSU vice chancellor and director of athletics Joe Alleva said. “We need our students to be loud when the Aggies have the football but to also keep it clean when cheering for the Tigers.

Valley State has hired Dianthia Ford-Kee as its new director of athletics.Dianthia Ford-Kee spent the past five years as Director of Athletics at Lincoln University of Pennsylvania having successfully navigated Lincoln’s Athletic Department to active membership in NCAA Division II and return to the CIAA. Ford-Kee came to Lincoln from Shaw University where she spent 18 years working in athletic administration and coaching.

University of Louisville is interested in again expanding Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, the athletic department has issued a request for proposal (RFP) for a feasibility study on expanding the currently open north end zone.

Athletic Director Jim Fiore is leaving SBU. Senior Associate AD Donna Woodruff will serve as the interim AD. The school bought out the remaining 31 months of his contract, which runs through June 30, 2016, for a total of nearly $800,000. Still no word on why yet.
CATAWBA COLLEGE
AD Scoop has learned Catawba College athletic director Dennis Davidson will resign at the end of the year, effective December 31st. During Davidson’s 17-year tenure as director of athletics, he headed up an athletic department that won 61 championships and the Echols Excellence Cup in 2005.
UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII HILO
Athletic Director Dexter Irvin is leaving UH Hilo for a new post. Irvin, who joined UH Hilo in August 2009, has accepted a position as athletic director with the College of Southern Nevada located in Henderson, Nevada, pending Nevada Board of Regents’ approval.
DUQUESNE UNIVERSITY
Duquesne announced the establishment of the Fund for Basketball Excellence, a campaign to which 10 donors have already committed a total of $1 million over the next five years.The administration has made significant recent investments in its men’s and women’s basketball programs and facilities. Annual operating budgets have more than doubled, and capital improvements have included renovations to administrative offices, recruiting spaces, strength and conditioning rooms and the basketball practice facility.

UNC officials have engaged in serious discussions regarding major renovations or possibly replacing the Dean E. Smith Center, home of Carolina basketball for the past 27 years. UNC has engaged in preliminary discussions with Kansas City-based 360 Architecture regarding the possibility of a new building.
