UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS

UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA

Following the latest trends in athletic departments. UGA has endowed Georgia Director of Athletics position. The position bears the name The J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics and honors the man who served the University in both academic and athletics capacities for 32 years.

 
AUBURN UNIVERSITY

Auburn is looking for an Associate Athletic Director, Ticket Sales & Operations, responsible for directing the comprehensive ticketing operations.

 


UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO

Athletic Director Rick George announced the department has budgeted for a $5.6 million shortfall. The department is already more than $21 million in debt to the university because of loans that helped pay for the costs of switching conferences and coaching buyouts. Compounding the problem, Buff football games are only drawing around 36,000 when the stadium seats 53,613.

 
STETSON UNIVERSITY

Stetson is looking for an Assistant Director for Operations and Facilities to oversee all areas of Stetson University Athletic Department’s scheduling, game management, supervision of event staff and facilities.

 
NEW JERSEY INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

AD Scoop has learned Director of Athletics, Lenny Kaplan announced NJIT is adding Lacrosse starting with the 2015 season, signifying the formation of the 69th men’s DI program and the 11th start-up since 2010.

 
FRESNO STATE UNIVERSITY

Fresno State’s annual athletic budget is about $26 million, with roughly $19.5 million generated within the department and through fundraising, and $6.5 million coming from state budget monies allotted from the university. Fresno is also receiving over $1 Million in unexpected revenue from ESPN. Given the entire athletic department’s recent success, expect Fresno State’s athletic budget to increase. Just ask school president Joseph Castro if he’s “all in”!

 
ST CLOUD STATE UNIVERSITY

St Cloud is looking for an Associate Athletics Director of Finance and Administration to oversee budgets, financial statements, payroll records, performance spreadsheet forecasting and fiscal planning.

 
UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS

Nick Saban’s agent said this week that the only school that Saban would ever consider leaving the Crimson Tide for would be Texas. Also, Keep in mind, outside hires always love to bring in their own guys and leave their mark on a program early, Patterson has a reputation for this as well. While Texas’s new coach may not be Saban, and Mack Brown may survive another year, look for a new head football coach at Texas in the near future.

UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS

Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long has parlayed interest from Texas into his second raise in 13 months. Long agreed to a new contract with the Razorbacks that will raise his annual salary to $1.1 million by next summer. It also includes a one-time $100,000 bonus and raises his buyout for $1.3 million through June 30, 2015.

 
ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY

ASU President Michael Crow has made some interesting comments following the departure of Steve Patterson. We wonder if he’s a little upset?

“I am looking for people committed to the model that we’re trying to advance, obviously there are other models. There are models of $6 million football coaches. Maybe that’ll soon be $10 million. For me, I don’t think that’s the way for college sports to go.
 

“Texas has a large-sized view of everything”

“If the only path to athletic success is the same path as professional teams more and more money like the Yankees model then where does that leave us in college sports?”

“We’ve been picked off like this three times in the the last 14 years. One of the things I’m looking for in this job is a builder for a new kind of model rather than someone to manage the larger and more expensive model.”

ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY

AD Scoop has learned ASU President Michael Crow has come out and said Steve Patterson told Crow in several conversations last week that he planned to stay at ASU and help build a new Sun Devil Stadium. However, all that changed Sunday when Texas sent multiple people to meet with him and upped the ante at every possible level. By the time Crow had talked to Patterson Monday, Patterson had already said yes to Texas.

 
CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, MONTEREY BAY

Following four successful months in the interim position, Kirby Garry has been named the full–time director of athletics at California State University, Monterey Bay. Garry joined the Otter Athletics team as assistant athletic director of external operations in 2008. His areas of oversight have included all aspects of athletic communications, corporate partnerships, development and marketing.
