The athletic department will have a newly renovated premium seating area for the 2015 football season – but with 1,200 fewer seats and on the opposite side of the stadium. UB Athletics recently announced the West Club, which is planned to open in August in time for the start of the Bulls’ season. The 400-seat section on the west side of the stadium will include an enclosed club private concourse, outside club seating, food and beverage service, private elevator access, premium parking and personalized seating.


Alfred University is hosting a golf outing as part of Reunion Weekend to benefit the AU intercollegiate athletics program.  The 2015 Alfred University Saxon Golf Classic will be held Friday, June 12, at the Bath Country Club. Proceeds from the four-person scramble tournament will directly benefit all 19 AU intercollegiate athletics teams. Cost for the event is $75 per person and includes greens fees, cart, lunch and beverages on the course.


Beginning in the 2015-2016 year, Aurora University will sponsor intercollegiate women’s bowling to the NCAA sponsored athletic offerings at the Aurora campus. Angela Rechsteiner has been hired as the first head coach of the Spartan women’s bowling. Rechsteiner will direct the program with the AU women joining the university as the 22nd NCAA Division III varsity sport. The Spartan bowlers home lanes will be officially announced prior to when the season begins in October 2015.


Melissa Batie-Smoose has been named the new head coach of the volleyball program at the College of the Holy Cross, director of athletics Nathan Pine announced. Batie-Smoose, who is the 10th head coach in program history, has over 20 years of collegiate coaching experience including in the Ivy League, ACC, SEC, Conference USA and Missouri Valley conferences. Batie-Smoose has spent the last three seasons as the head coach at Cornell where she brought an up-tempo, aggressive style of play.

University of Arkansas seeks an Assistant Director of Recruiting Personnel.  The Assistant Director of Recruiting Personnel will assist the Director of Football Recruiting in all aspects of recruiting. Algoma University’s board of governors has approved the university’s operating budget for the 2015-2016 year. The Virginia Tech athletics department announced today the hiring of Pete Moris as associate athletics director for strategic communications. Moris will officially join the Virginia Tech administrative staff on May 4. Moris comes to Tech from the University of Oklahoma, where he had been serving as the assistant athletics director for communications since 2012. He will oversee the athletics communications office at Tech, taking over the position that will be vacated by longtime Associate AD for Athletics Communications Dave Smith, who is retiring on June 1 after working 40 years in the Virginia Tech athletics department. – Read More.


University of Akron swimming and diving head coach Brian Peresie has received afive-year contract extension, Director of Athletics Tom Wistrcill announced on Wednesday. The extension, which is pending approval by the UA Board of Trustees, will keep Peresie at the helm of the program through the 2020 season. Peresie recently completed his second season as the Zips’ mentor, leading Akron to back-to-back Mid-American Conference championships, a first in program history. – Jared Anderson,Swim Swam. David Gaudioso has been named the Lees-McRae men’s and women’s volleyball assistant coach, announced the Vice President Director of Athletics Craig McPhail Wednesday morning. Gaudioso was an assistant coach for the girls’ varsity team at Summit High School in Frisco, Colo. Vickie Van Kleeck is retiring from coaching after steering the Ferrum softball team for 24 season. The Ferrum softball team’s season-ending doubleheader at Randolph last week marked the end of Van Kleeck’s coaching career. She announced last fall that this would be her final season. After the creation of the Athletic Department more than two years ago, Florida National University (FNU) is building off of the endeavors that were put in place by adding three more sports for the 2015–‘16 school year. With the Men’s Basketball team finishing with a 20-11 record and its first ever trip to the USCAA National Tournament, now is a great time to see sports expand at FNU. Ohio University students pay more than $850 each in general fees every year to subsidize Bobcat athletics. The only university in Ohio to turn a profit on its intercollegiate athletics (ICA) program is Ohio State. Every other university in the state subsidizes its ICA program with student fees collected as part of tuition. Temple University head field hockey coach Marybeth Freeman has announced the hiring of Roz Ellis as associate head coach of the program. Ellis, who has six years of experience coaching collegiate field hockey, comes to Temple from the University of Louisville where she spent the 2014 season. Ellis served as a volunteer assistant coach at Wake Forest in 2010 and helped lead the Demon Deacons to an NCAA tournament appearance. She began her coaching career at Appalachian State, where she was an assistant coach in 2009.


Boonton High School student athletes Anthony Fajardo and Eric Fiorino both signed Letters of Intent with Coker College. Fajardo, who wrestled in the 126 pound class in high school, reached his 100th career win this past season and was named to the NJAC All Conference First Team and the All Morris County team. He plans on majoring in counseling psychology. Fiorino, competing in the 170 pound weight class, is a District 9 Title winner and was named to the NJAC All Conference Second Team. Former BYU basketball manager Andrew May has been hired to return to the program as its director of basketball operations. BYU coach Dave Rose announced Friday that May, who has been an assistant coach at Salt Lake Community College the past four years, will replace Cody Fueger at BYU. Fueger is expected to join former BYU assistant Mark Pope at Utah Valley University. May was a student manager at BYU from 2006-11, including head manager from 2007-11. – SLTRIB. Read More.


Wade Denniston has been named an assistant media relations coordinator with the Utah State Athletics Department, it was announced Wednesday by Associate Athletics Director Doug Hoffman. Denniston officially began his duties on March 23. In his new position, Denniston will serve as the primary media contact for Utah State’s gymnastics, track and field and cross-country programs, as well as assisting with a number of other sports, including football. – Doug Hoffman, Deseret News. Read More.

Sue Davis, a head coach of Swarthmore College swimming for more than 40 years, has announced her retirement. Davis arrived at Swarthmore College in 1974 as the head women’s swimming coach and immediately took the program to a new level. She later took over the reins of the Swarthmore men’s swimming team in 1983. Davis served in a variety of other roles at Swarthmore, which included head volleyball coach from 1978 to 1983 and Senior Woman Administrator from 1992 to 2002.
