Pace University Director of Athletics Mark Brown has named Drew Brown as the Associate Athletic Director for External Operations effective June 15. He will oversee athletics marketing, promotions and communications as well as athletics alumni relations and sponsorship. This is Brown’s second stint with Pace University. He also worked from 2012-13 as the Director of Athletic Development. University of Massachusetts Director of Athletics Ryan Bamford has announced the appointment of Darrice Griffin as the newly created Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Internal Operations/Senior Woman Administrator. Griffin comes to UMass after spending the last six years at Columbia including the past four as Associate Athletics Director for Intercollegiate Sports Programs. In her new role at UMass, Griffin will oversee several varsity sport internal support units including academic services, equipment, sports medicine, strength & conditioning, student-athlete enrichment and facilities & operations. Additionally, she will serve as sport administrator for several varsity sports, assist with intercollegiate scheduling and oversee capital planning and related facility projects.


A woman who has been a part of some of St. Cloud State University’s biggest athletic accomplishments is retiring. Anne Abicht, Director of Athletic Media Relations, is wrapping up a 30 year career with the university at the end of June. In her 30 years at the university Abicht has seen some tremendous athletic accomplishments, she noted the success of the basketball teams in the 80’s and the hockey teams and most recently the wrestling team winning a national championship. – KNSI. Head coach Dave Serrano announced the addition of Larry Simcox as new assistant coach of the Volunteer baseball program on Monday. With nearly 30 years of coaching experience, including 22 years as an assistant in the Southeastern Conference, Simcox brings a wealth of knowledge to the Tennessee program and a renowned track record of success. Bowling Green announced today that they have signed hockey head coach Chris Bergeron to a five-year contract extension that will keep him behind the bench in Bowling Green through the 2022-2023 season. Bergeron has been the head coach at Bowling Green for the past seasons and has improved his win total in each of the past four seasons. This past season, the Falcons went 23-11-5 for their first 20-win season since 1995-96, and missed out on the last at-large NCAA Tournament bid to eventual national champion Providence by .0001 percentage points in the RPI. – Chris Dilks, SBN College Hockey. Don Parnell, Cal State San Bernardino baseball coach for the past 24 seasons, announced his retirement on Monday. The move is effective Aug. 1. Parnell led the Coyotes since they became a Division II program in 1991. The Coyotes won the CCAA title in 2002 and played in conference tournaments in 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2010 and 2012. CSUSB reached the top eight in the NCAA West Region nine times. – PE. Read more.


Duncan Sherrard, former head swimming coach at Florida Southern College and an All-America swimmer at the University of Florida, has joined head coach Rich DeSelm’s staff as an assistant swimming coach at the University of North Carolina. Sherrard comes to Chapel Hill after a distinguished tenure at Florida Southern where he was named the Sunshine State Conference Men’s Coach of the Year three times. He led the Moccasins to Sunshine State Conference titles each of his last three years there (2013-15). Chelsea Turner will join the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball coaching staff, head coach David Midlick announced. Turner, a native of Norman, Oklahoma, has spent the past two seasons at Tulsa as the program’s Director of Player Development and Team Manager. She was responsible for planning and organizing all team events and activities, including community service events, recruiting visits and as an academic liaison. Before Tulsa, Turner worked in private business as a behavioral specialist and youth outreach coordinator. During that time, she remained active in basketball working with the Oklahoma Women’s Basketball Camps each summer from 2007-12.


Xavier head volleyball coach Christy Pfeffenberger has announced the hiring of Kelly Audia as an assistant volleyball coach. Audia coached at Georgia State from 2010-13, serving as an assistant coach for two seasons before being promoted to associate head coach in 2012. He assisted in coaching six players to all-conference honors during his time with the Panthers, including two first-team honorees. He was also the head volleyball coach at Sequoyah HS in Canton, Ga., from 1997-2010 prior to joining the college coaching ranks. He led his team to seven conference championships, three state final four appearances and two Georgia State AAAAA Runner-Up finishes.


Meghan Peyton, who served as interim head coach for the Augsburg College men’s and women’s cross country teams in 2014, will assume head coaching duties on a permanent basis, the college announced on Monday. Peyton, who has been a part of the Augsburg cross country and track and field coaching staff since 2010, will also serve as an assistant coach for the track and field teams, coaching the distance runners. She has also guided distance runners to continued improvement in track and field. The Auggies had two top-10 finishes in indoor distance events at the 2015 MIAC indoor championships, and six top-10 finishes in outdoor distance events and relays at the 2015 MIAC outdoor championships.


Emily Hackert, who served as interim women’s track and field head coach at Colby College (Maine) this season, has been named head coach of the Augsburg College men’s and women’s track and field teams, the college announced on Monday. Hackert served as interim women’s track and field head coach at Colby, an NCAA Division III college in Waterville, Maine, this season, after serving as a men’s and women’s track and field assistant coach there for three seasons. Prior to coming to Colby, she had served as an assistant coach at Washington and Jefferson College (Pa.) and Springfield College (Mass.).

Dr. Cornelius Kerwin, the chair of the Patriot League’s Council of Presidents and President at American University, announced Monday that Jennifer Heppel has been appointed as the League’s fifth Executive Director. She comes to the Patriot League after working the past five years as an associate commissioner at the Big Ten Conference.


Work is well under way on what will truly be a transformative reshaping of Bryant’s facilities over the next two years. Work is under way on three major athletic upgrades, which are part of Bryant’s $75-million “Expanding the World of Opportunity” capital campaign. The construction phase of the campaign is dubbed “Bryant Builds” and has turned the bucolic, wooded campus off Route 7 into a major work zone. Arizona gymnastics’ head coach Tabitha Yim announced on Friday that former University of Washington associate head coach David McCreary will be joining Arizona as an assistant coach this fall. Prior to Arizona, McCreary worked with Washington for nine seasons and was named the West Region co-Assistant Coach of the Year in 2011. He also served as an assistant coach at Oregon State University earlier in his career.


Jay Johnson, the head baseball coach at Nevada the past two seasons, has been named the next head man of Arizona. Athletic director Greg Byrne announced the hire Sunday night on Twitter. Johnson, 38, went 72-42 in his two seasons with Nevada and led the Wolf Pack to a 41-15 season this year. Before he took over at Nevada, Johnson was an assistant at the University of San Diego for eight seasons. There, he served as the hitting coach and recruiting coordinator and helped USD land future phenom Kris Bryant, who is now playing third base in his rookie season for the Chicago Cubs. – Daniel Berk, Read More.



Northwestern Vice President for Athletics and Recreation Jim Phillips has announced the signing of head women’s golf coach Emily Fletcher to a contract extension. Just the second head coach in NU women’s golf history, Fletcher has been with the program since May of 2008. In her seven years as head coach of the Wildcats, Fletcher has guided the NU squad to two Big Ten titles, including the program’s first conference championship in 2013. Fletcher has led the `Cats to six-straight NCAA regional appearances and to three-consecutive trips to the NCAA Championships.


Wofford College seeks a Head Volleyball Coach. This position reports directly to the Senior Associate AD. The Head Volleyball coach must maintain a thorough knowledge of NCAA, Southern Conference, and institutional rules. Coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level or head coaching experience at the NCAA Division II level preferred. Dorian Jackson has been hired as director of creative services for East Carolina University Athletics, according to an announcement by assistant athletics director for marketing and sales Greg Herring. Jackson arrives after nearly two years as a creative services and marketing assistant at Old Dominion University, where he began working in October of 2013. There, he assisted with the planning, development and execution of promotions for the Monarchs’ 18 athletics programs. Jackson was also responsible for creating page layouts for printed materials with graphics and publication software.
