Athletic Director Morgan Burke was emphatic in his support of Hazell Thursday in a lengthy interview with the Big Ten Network. Burke said that Purdue President Mitch Daniels and the university’s board of trustees also support Hazell, whose efforts will receive a boost in December if the trustees approve a $60 million, 110-square-foot football performance center, which is scheduled to be completed during the summer of 2017. “If there is confusion about who the guy is who’s going to lead the Boilermakers in 2016, let’s dispel that,” Burke told the Big Ten Network. “When we hired him in 2013, we recognized this wasn’t going to be an easy undertaking. “That’s why we offered him a six-year agreement, because we wanted to give him sufficient time in order to put this program in good standing. From a win-loss perspective, no one is happy. We’re disappointed. But despite the losses and inconsistent play, progress is being made.” “Certainly, this helps in many facets,” Hazell said Tuesday when asked about Burke’s vote of confidence. “Obviously, in the recruiting front, the players in our locker room to our coaching staff, all those things that allow you to set your feet and continue to work extremely hard. “You need to have that confidence from the powers that be behind you, so it was a huge boost for our program.” -Jeff Washburn, The Journal Gazette, Read More
