Alanna Shanahan is the new athletic director at Johns Hopkins University. She started at Hopkins July 18, after serving as the deputy director of athletics and senior women’s administrator for the past four years at her alma mater, the University of Pennsylvania. Shanahan, a former standout lacrosse player and coach at Penn, is only the fourth athletic director at Johns Hopkins since 1950 and the first woman to hold that position in the school’s history. Shanahan recently spoke with PressBox about her move from an NCAA Division I program at Penn to Johns Hopkins, where 22 of the school’s 24 sports compete at the NCAA Division III level. – Steve Jones, Press Box.
