Sources have informed College AD the candidate pool for the open Winthrop athletic director position has been dwindled down to four finalist. The finalist are Howard University Deputy Director of Athletics / SWA Shelley Davis, FAU Executive Associate AD / SWA Melissa Dawson, Eastern Washington Deputy AD Ken Halpin, PhD, and Cal State Stanislaus athletic director Michael Matoso. Sources tell College AD the finalist were selected from a group of about 100 applicants. The four finalist were interviewed by Winthrop’s 15 member search committee and University President Dan Mahony. Each finalist is expected to visit campus for in-person interviews beginning Sunday, April 24th through May 2nd. Haplin will be up first, followed by Dawson, then Davis and finally Matoso. Winthrop hopes to have its new athletic director in place by July 1.
