Jamill Jones, accused of fatally punching a tourist last year in New York, has resigned as Wake Forest University’s assistant men’s basketball coach. Wake Forest announced Jones’ resignation in a news release Friday. Jones is facing a charge of third-degree misdemeanor assault in connection with the death of Sandor Szabo on Aug. 5, 2018,in Queens, N.Y. “I believe it is in the best interest of both the team and me personally that I resign from my position,” Jones said through a school-issued press release. Jones was placed on administrative leave after the incident in New York. Steve Shutt, a spokesman for the WFU Athletic Department, declined to comment on whether Jones received his salary while he was on administrative leave, or whether WFU provided Jones with severance pay or a buyout. -By Ethan Joyce and John Hinton, Winston-Salem Journal.
