The funeral for former Vanderbilt athletics director David Williams will be Friday in Nashville. Services will be open to the public and held at Temple Church, located at 3810 Kings Lane. Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by funeral services at 1:15 p.m. Williams, the SEC’s first black athletics director, died Friday at age 71 after collapsing at a local restaurant and suffering an aneurysm, according to family friend and author Andrew Maraniss in a tribute he wrote for  Through a statement released by DVL Seigenthaler public relations firm, the family of Williams said, “(We) would like to thank everyone for the words of support and love during this tough time. We are heartbroken by the passing of our beloved husband, father and friend. Yet our hearts have been warmed by the many expressions of love.” In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Perry E.
