Larry Shyatt ended up returning to Laramie for another season, but athletics director Burman decided it was time to be proactive. Unless Shyatt gave Burman advanced notice confirming he would be back for the 2016-17 season, the A.D. was going to interview candidates for a job opening he didn’t yet know existed. Burman considered each of Wyoming’s three assistant coaches at the time: Scott Duncan, Jeremy Shyatt and Allen Edwards, who was named Larry Shyatt’s successor in March. Burman called the hiring process “very unique.” Burman said each of the assistants had had opportunities to leave the program during that time.
