University of Hartford athletic director Mary Ellen Gillespie has resigned from her position according to an email sent to athletic department staff members by school president Greg Woodward and obtained by The Courant. “I have recently accepted her formal resignation,” Woodward said in the email sent Friday night. A school spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment Friday. Gillespie has been on leave, which The Courant confirmed last month. The university had declined further comment including the reason for the leave. Gillespie was hired in 2017 after serving as athletic director at University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. The department has seen a high rate of turnover since her hiring. -Dan Brechlin, Hartford Courant. Read More.
