It’s official. Mike Davis has been hired as Detroit Mercy’s basketball coach and will be introduced during a news conference on Thursday. Davis could be getting upwards of $400,000 per season, according to a source familiar with the situation. UDM announced the hiring in a news release on Wednesday. Davis, 57, was at Texas Southern, Alabama Birmingham and Indiana University before agreeing to become UDM’s next coach. Davis signed a four-year contract at TSU in October 2012, according to the school’s website, and was named Southwest Athletic Conference coach of the year in 2014-2015. He posted a 115-89 record at Texas Southern and was 88-20 in league play, leading the team to four NCAA tournament appearances. In his six years at the school, Texas Southern finished no lower than second in regular-season conference play. His overall record is 352-241. Davis is walking into a program that has won only 16 games over the last two seasons. – Perry A. Farrell, freep – Read More
