College AD has learned that David Harris will be the new athletic director at Northern Iowa. Harris comes to Northern Iowa after spending the last 10 years as the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student Services at Iowa State. At Iowa State, Harris was the sports administrator for football, men’s basketball and wrestling and also had oversight responsibilities for student-athlete development, compliance, athletic training and strength & conditioning at Iowa State. Under Harris’ direction, the Cyclones earned a prestigious “Program of Excellence” award for its life skills program (2008); recorded an all-time best student-athlete graduation rate (79% in 2009); and the athletic training unit was named the Big 12’s best (2008 and 2014). ISU’s student-athlete graduation rate was second-best in the Big 12 last year. Outside of his work for the athletics department, Harris was named a Fellow by the Division 1A Athletics Directors Association in 2011.
