In an effort to keep pace with the growing might of the NCAA’s “Power 5” conferences, University of Massachusetts athletic director Ryan Bamford said Tuesday that the school will cover proportional cost of attendance figures up to approximately $1,600 for each and every student-athlete on scholarship beginning this fall. The decision follows in the footsteps made by many of the nation’s larger athletic departments in that it strives to better offset what’s known as the “true” cost of attending college, while also helping to keep UMass ahead of the curve as a smaller-conference school willing to go the extra mile to attract recruits and improve the day-to-day lives of its athletes. – Daniel Malone, Mass Live, Read More
