As part of a recently amended marketing and broadcast rights agreement, University of Alabama at Birmingham athletics will receive about $17 million in guaranteed royalties over the life of the deal with at least another $16 million possible under additional revenue sharing provisions. UAB officials called the new deal “huge” for the department. They said the deal was amended as the profile of the Blazers has increased in Conference USA. “What it does for us is it allows us to provide a world-class experience for our athletes,” UAB Athletics Director Mark Ingram said. The board of trustees approved the amended agreement with Learfield IMG College LLC on June 7 at is regular board meeting. The additional funding will be incorporated into the department’s operating budget. The agreement includes $1.5 million from Learfield IMG College to be used by UAB on mutually agreed upon equipment purchases for UAB facilities to increase marketing opportunities. The equipment stipend will be divided into $300,000 payments in years three through seven of the deal. The deal also includes an annual ticket stipend worth about $1.8 million over the life of the agreement that will be paid by Learfield IMG College for tickets, suites and event passes provided by UAB. The ticket stipend is worth $150,000 in years one and two, $190,000 for the next three years, and $200,000 for the remaining five years. -Ed Enoch, Tuscaloosanews. Read More.
