The announcement that ESPN executive John Wildhack would be the new athletics director at Syracuse University initially brought mixed reactions from SU fans. Wildhack is an SU alum and a Buffalo native but has never worked in a college athletics department. “That is surprising that a big time university would not choose somebody with athletic director experience,” said SU fan Dave Malter. A press release from SU described Wildhack as having “unique qualifications.” He was a key executive at ESPN, responsible for 50,000 of hours of programming each year.
