Three of the five highest-paid employees at Syracuse University in the 2017-18 academic year worked in the athletic department. Men’s basketball coach Jim Boeheim led the list of the school’s top earners, earning $2.6 million in total compensation. That included a salary of $2.3 million and a bonus of $50,000. Syracuse made the Sweet 16 in 2017-18. That was the first season under Boeheim’s current contract extension, which was announced after Mike Hopkins, the school’s former assistant coach and head coach in waiting, took a job at the University of Washington. Boeheim’s total compensation was slightly down from the previous year, when he received a salary of $2.2 million and a bonus of $260,000. That year the team made the National Invitation Tournament. Football coach Dino Babers, Chancellor Kent Syverud, law professor emeritus William Banks and women’s basketball coach Quentin Hillsman rounded out the five highest-paid employees in 2017-18. Babers was No. 2 on the list, earning $2.2 million in total compensation in 2017-18, his second year running the program. That number included a salary of $2 million and bonuses of $80,000. – Chris Carlson, syracuse – Read More
