After head football coach Ed Lamb left SUU to become an assistant head coach at Brigham Young, Jason Butikofer will make his first head coaching hire as an AD. Butikofer said there was no timetable in place, but with signing day just over a month away, he did say there was “definite value” in moving quickly on the hire. And while it will be his first search as the lead man of a department, it won’t be the first search he has led. When Butikofer was an associate athletic director at Army West Point, he led searches for the wrestling coach and the cross country and track coach. He also was involved in every aspect of the football coaching hire. Butikofer expects SUU to offer a competitive salary as it relates to the Big Sky.
