Rutgers University’s Board of Governors approved a football coaching contract for Greg Schiano Tuesday. Schiano is now the highest-paid state employee in New Jersey history. He’ll make $4 million per year for eight years, $32 million for the life of the contract. New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy’s salary is $175,000. If Schiano is fired, he’ll get 76.875% of his remaining salary if he’s dismissed. So if he’s fired tomorrow, Rutgers will have to write out a check for $24.6 million and if he quits before Dec. 1, 2020, he’ll owe RU $8 million. The buyout figure decreases over time. If he quits during the final three years, he’ll have to pay the university $1 million. -Bob Jordan, Asbury Park Press. Read More.
