NJIT will join the Northeast Conference, as the league continues its growth in men’s lacrosse. NJIT is one of four men’s lacrosse programs set to compete as an independent in 2019. Starting in 2020, the Highlanders will play an NEC schedule as an associate member. “We are very excited to join the Northeast Conference as an associate member in men’s lacrosse. Since our program’s inception, we have been searching for a competitive league within our geographic region and the NEC is a perfect fit,” said Lenny Kaplan, NJIT’s Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics, in a news release. “This partnership is the final piece to help us grow into the competitive program that we envisioned since its launch.” The NEC has in recent weeks added Merrimack and Long Island University, both DII programs who have elevated to DI. The addition would see NEC membership rise to 10 teams — seven full members (Bryant, LIU, Merrimack, Mount St. Mary’s, Robert Morris, Sacred Heart and Wagner) and three associates (NJIT, Hobart and Saint Joseph’s). – insidelacrosse – Read More
