Fred has really nice hair. Well, he did. The IU athletic director shaved it off Tuesday, before leaving for the fifth-seeded Hoosiers’ NCAA tournament opener at 7:10 p.m. Thursday. If you’re watching the Hoosiers on television, you’ll see the glowing bald head courtside, a big white bulb of a scalp untouched by sunlight. Glass shaved that glorious hair for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, one of the country’s biggest fundraisers for pediatric cancer research, and he will do it for three people in his life: For the 8-year-old who never cried, except when he realized having cancer meant losing his hair. For the longtime friend who twice shaved his head for cancer research, then went bald because he was diagnosed with brain cancer himself.
