Brian Hutchinson has been in Morehead, Ky., since he arrived on the campus in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains as an 18-year-old undergrad. Now 41, with nearly 12 years experience as Morehead State’s athletics director, he’s ready for a new challenge. “I’m driven as a competitor,” Hutchinson said. “That’s what interests me in being in athletics. I’ve talked to our president at Morehead if there’s an opportunity for me in student life later. I’m not sure I want to do that because it’s not a competitive thing. This is a driver for me. The hours are horrible, you’re away from your family a lot. It’s a lifestyle, but it’s the lifestyle we’ve known as a family. It’s fun for us and this is a great place to do it.” “This one feels like time for us in a lot of ways. It fits a profile of where I want to be, where I want to work,” Hutchinson told a group of Indiana State athletic department supporters Thursday in the last of four candidate forums for the position left vacant last month with Ron Prettyman’s departure to the NCAA. “The staff, the athletics department, the senior staff does a lot of work that folks can’t imagine they have to do to make the thing work.” -Craig Pearson, Tribune-Star, Read More
