One of four finalists to become director of athletics Indiana State, Sherard Clinkscales would love to return to his home state and be a visible spokesperson for the university. An Indianapolis native, Clinkscales starred at Purdue as a pitcher on the baseball team before being drafted in the first round by the Kansas City Royals. He also spent a chunk of his professional career in Indiana as a pitching coach at Notre Dame and two years as a assistant director of championships at the NCAA offices in Indianapolis. Clinkscales said Wednesday that he envisions himself as an administrator who can encourage his coaches to be visible in the campus and Terre Haute community and beyond in an effort to better market the athletic programs. “I’d like to have our coaches do a coaching caravan to central Indiana, Northwest Indiana and southern Indiana. We have 80 percent of our alumni here in state. They’re out there; they need to be engaged,” Clinkscales said Wednesday at the Hulman Memorial Student Union. -Craig Pearson, Tribune-Star, Read More
