Redbird Arena and Horton Field House will be getting a face lift following action by the Illinois State University board of trustees at its quarterly meeting on Friday. The board approved a project to replace lower bowl seating and enhance other seating at Redbird Arena. The retractable seating in the lower bowl has been in place since arena opened in 1989. President Larry Dietz said replacement parts are hard to find for repairs and new seating is needed. The project also will improve accessibility for people with disabilities. In addition to replacing the retractable seating, 15 new platform seating locations will be installed to meet requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Nine “loge box” seating locations also will be added. An additional private suite also will be included in the project if it fits within the estimate project cost of $6.2 million. The project will be financed with auxiliary facilities system revenue bonds. – LENORE SOBOTA, pantagraph – Read More
