Jeri Porter, a former head coach on the Division II and Division I levels, was named the women’s basketball coach at Francis Marion on Monday, the university announced. Porter replaces Jay Sparks, who left after one season, citing family reasons. She began her coaching career at Division II North Alabama. Her teams had three winning records in four years, including a 21-7 mark in the 1999-2000 season. That team won the Gulf Coast Conference East Division title and Porter was the league’s coach of the year. – Mark A. Haselden, SCNow. Read More.
