Alabama State University

February 28th, 2014—Alabama State is taking applications for its next Director of Athletics. Apply here. Melvin Hines is serving as Interim Athletic Director.

University of California
 

• June 27th, 2014— H. Michael Williams, a former Cal wrestler with extensive financial and leadership experience, has been named the school’s interim AD while the university conducts a search to replace Sandy Barbour, a campus source said. Williams is a trustee with the U.C. Berkeley Foundation and serves on several university panels. Williams’ appointment will be formally announced at a news conference today at Memorial Stadium. The source said Williams will not be a candidate for the permanent position. -Jeff Faraudo-

California State University, Bakersfield
 

• July 8th, 2014—Sources tell College AD that Ziggy Siegfried has been named Interim Athletic Director at Cal State Bakersfield. Siegfried replaces Jeffrey Konya, who left for the AD position at Oakland University. Siegfried has been the Senior Associate AD at the university since March of 2012. Prior to this, he was the Senior Director of Development for the Business/Economics College at the University of Memphis.

 

 

 
(D1) Sacramento State
 

• May 15th, 2014— Sources report that Athletic Director Terry Wanless will be stepping down on June 30. Dr. Terry Wanless’ 11-year tenure as Sacramento State’s Director of Athletics has seen unparalleled growth in the school’s 22-year Division I history. The longest tenured athletics director in school history, Wanless has seen Sacramento State rack up 54 conference championships. Academically, Sacramento State athletics recently posted its highest graduation rates in the Div. I era.

• June 13th, 2014— Sources tell College AD that UC Santa Barbara athletic director Mark Massari will be stepping down next week to take a position at Oregon State University. We hear that Massari will be taking the senior associate ad for development position which was vacated by Shawn Heilbron last month when he departed for the ad position at Stony Brook University. We cannot confirm the exact position Massari will fill at this point. Massari has been the athletic director for UC Santa Barbara since August 2008, when Chancellor Henry Yang appointed him. We are told the official announcement from UC Santa Barbara is set for Wednesday, June 18th.
• June 17th, 2014—Sources continue to tell College AD that athletics director Mark Massari will be stepping down this week for the position of senior associate ad for development at Oregon State. We are told the official announcement is still coming this week.

 

 

 
Grambling State University
 

• July 1st, 2014— According to KTVE 10 Sports, Aaron James has been relieved of his duties as Athletic Director at Grambling State University. James was named Interim AD in June of 2011, and was named the permanent AD in August 2013. No announcement have been made yet regarding a search for James’ replacement. We will keep you updated as we hear more.

 

 

 
Long Island University Brooklyn
 

• July 16th, 2014— Sources say that John Suarez will be stepping down as LIU Brooklyn Athletics Director. Suarez recently completed his 17th year as director of athletics at LIU Brooklyn, where he has overseen unprecedented growth of the school’s athletic department. During his tenure, Suarez has witnessed a dramatic rise in the Blackbirds’ on-field success with 46 Northeast Conference championships and 36 NEC Coach of the Year awards. Suarez arrived at LIU following a three-year stint as athletics director at Mercer County College in Trenton, N.J., which won two national championships and produced 11 regional titles in that span.
• July 16th, 2014— Sources tell College AD that LIU Brooklyn will be selecting its interim AD by the end of this month. The selected individual will replace John Suarez, who is stepping down after 17 years in the position. We will keep you updated as we hear more.
• July 19th, 2014— The Athletics Director position is now available. Apply here. The position will be open until it is filled.

• March 25th, 2014—With athletic director Grace Calhoun leaving for the University of Pennsylvania, the Loyola athletic director jobs open. Here’s the initial Tredwell Report. Athletic Director jobs open.
• April 3rd, 2014—Sources tell College AD that Loyola is still in the process of getting organized with regards to their AD Search. Loyola used Parker Executive Search previously when they hired outgoing athletic director Grace Calhoun, so it will be interesting to see if they enlist the search firm’s services again.
• May 12th, 2014—Sources tell College AD that the AD search still continues. The position has been open since March 25th, after athletic director Grace Calhoun left for Penn. It appears that the school is taking its time in finding a suitable candidate. The University used Parker Executive Search to hire Calhoun in 2011. However, no search firm will be used to hire the next athletics director. No timeline has been set yet for obtaining the new hire. We will keep you updated as we hear more.
