Cal State Bakersfield athletics has reached unprecedented heights in academics and on-field success as a Division I program in Kenneth “Ziggy” Siegfried’s 13 months as interim athletic director. Siegfried is looking to trade “interim” to permanent. Siegfried, who turns 35 next month, is one of two finalists for the permanent job. He had his meet-the-public event Wednesday morning. Siegfried figures to be the favorite. He’s been running the athletic department for more than a year after the departure of previous AD Jeff Konya, who resigned to take the AD job at Oakland University (Mich.). Siegfried is popular on campus and in the community.
