CIU’s first athletic director Kim Abbott will be returning to the athletic department in a new role as assistant athletic director. Abbott was athletic director at CIU from 2010-2016 and was responsible for building CIU athletics from the ground up. She put together a plan for CIU athletics that included branding a new athletic logo and mascot, starting 8 new sports, hiring CIU’s first coaches, and building new facilities to support the athletic teams. She hired James Whitaker as the first CIU soccer coach and assistant athletic director in 2011. When Kim Abbott stepped away from her position in December 2016 to care for her elderly parents, Whitaker took over as CIU’s athletic director. Read More.
