During the summer of 2018, William & Mary introduced a new logo – a fresh twist on its interlocked “W&M” – with the goal of re-energizing the brand of a school founded in 1693. That represented one of the first noticeable changes made under Samantha Huge, named W&M’s director of athletics in May of 2017. She continued to modify Tribe sports in more consequential ways, with the same theme of rejuvenation, and also dealt with the death of football player Nate Evans, a Lee-Davis High graduate shot in Norfolk on March 21.
