Amy Backus has been named Case Western Reserve’s first permanent female athletic director, the school announced Friday morning. Backus was the senior associate athletic director at Yale, and she compiled a 215-205 career record as women’s basketball coach at Otterbein, Middlebury and Yale.

“I am delighted to return to Ohio to join a university so committed to the full development of students as scholars, leaders and citizens,” Backus said in a statement released by CWRU. “Athletics can be an invaluable part of preparing students for life, and I look forward to working with our students, staff, faculty, alumni and the larger campus community to help advance Case Western Reserve’s goals.”

Backus is currently the Senior Associate Athletic Director at Yale, and she brings with her both 25 years of basketball coaching experience and a decade of experience in athletics administration. She will be the first female to serve in the role in a permanent capacity.
