Binghamton University has for the second time extended the contract of men’s basketball coach Tommy Dempsey, whose teams have played to a .343 winning percentage. Three games into the final year of an extension granted in 2015, the seventh-year coach’s deal has been stretched through the 2020-21 season. The initial extension was granted after he’d coached the Bearcats to a three-season record of 16-76. In three seasons and three games since, the Bearcats have gone 32-64, including 10-38 in America East Conference play. “I believe strongly in the future success of our program under Tommy’s leadership,” said Patrick Elliott, BU’s director of athletics. “We have an exciting group of athletes who I believe will be a big part of that success. A Dunmore, Pennsylvania, native, Dempsey was appointed Bearcats’ coach in May 2012. His BU program earned a National Association of Basketball Coaches Team Academic Excellence Award in 2018 for maintaining a grade-point average above 3.0. – pressconnects – Read More
