Deon Thomas will be an assistant men’s basketball coach, reports Fred Mitchell. Thomas has been the head men’s basketball coach and the athletic director at Lewis and Clark Community College. He was an all-time leading scorer when he played for Illinois.
UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE
Head men’s basketball coach Donnie Tyndall formally announced his full-time coaching staff today, as announced by the university in a press release. Al Pinkins, Adam Howard and Chris Shumate have been named assistant coaches. Jareem Dowling will serve as director of player development, and Justin Phelps is the director of basketball operations. Tyndall also hired Todd Moyer as the program’s strength and conditioning coach. All were on Tyndall’s basketball staff at Southern Miss.

Head men’s basketball coach Steve Wojciechowski hires Brett Nelson to complete his staff, Jeff Goodman reports. Nelson played for the University of Florida from 1999-2003 and was a school record-holder. He is currently the associate head coach at Ball State, having made assistant coaching stops at Marshall, Arkansas, and Drake. He joins assistants Mark Phelps and Chris Carrawell.

Head men’s basketball coach Anthony Grant has announced that Reggie Witherspoon has been hired as an assistant men’s basketball coach. Witherspoon replaces former assistant coach Tony Pujol on the Alabama basketball staff. Witherspoon, who has 28 years of experience coaching basketball, most recently spent 14 years (1999-2013) as head coach at the University of Buffalo. He finished his career at Buffalo tied for second in program history with 198 wins.

IUPUI head men’s basketball coach Jason Gardner has announced the addition of Jon-Michael Nickerson to his staff as an assistant coach. Nickerson helped Memphis to a 24-10 mark this past season, ultimately having been drawn to the Tigers’ program by Head Coach Josh Pastner. Nickerson becomes the second assistant on Gardner’s staff as longtime aide Matt Crenshaw was retained from the previous staff.

Sunny Smallwood will be the new associate women’s head coach, announced today by head coach Gordy Presnell.. Smallwood is currently in the same position at Nebraska. Smallwood replaces Ben Finkbeiner, who left in early April for Utah State University, where he was given the opportunity to work with his father Jerry Finkbeiner, the head coach of the Aggies.

As stated in a press conference on the university website today, Athletics Director Danny McCabe announced the hiring of David Duke as the new men’s head basketball coach. Duke, who just completed his fourth year on the bench at Fordham, his second as Associate Head Coach, helped the Rams to an appearance in the Atlantic-10 Championship.

DirtKing first reported that Jared Phay is leaving North Idaho College to become the new head basketball coach at College of Southern Idaho. Now sources are telling us that Phay has indeed accepted the position. He will be introduced tomorrow at a press conference in Twin Falls, replacing Jeremy Cox, who resigned last month after coaching one season. Two other finalists were New Mexico JC head coach James Miller and Utah Director of Basketball Operations Norm Parrish.

Stated in a press release this afternoon, Carly Thibault has been named an assistant women’s basketball coach. She has been the director of recruiting operations for the Florida State University women’s basketball team for the past year. Prior to that, she enjoyed a strong collegiate career at Northeast Conference school Monmouth from 2009-13.
GARDNER-WEBB UNIVERSITY
The university announced yesterday that DeAntoine Beasley as been hired an assistant men’s basketball coach. Beasley spent the 2013-2014 season as an assistant at Pensacola State College, where he helped the Pirates to a 21-11 overall record in the junior college ranks and the program’s 15th Panhandle Conference title. He will be replacing Takayo Siddle, who left to become an assistant men’s coach on Kevin Keatts’ staff at UNC Wilmington.

Athletics Director Darren Dunn announced today that Kamie Ethridge will take over as the new head women’s basketball coach. Ethridge served the last 18 years as Kansas State’s associate head coach and totaling over 500 wins in her coaching career. A Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame inductee and an Olympic gold medalist, she has played a prominent role in women’s basketball. She will be replacing Jaime White, who resigned earlier this month. She will be officially introduced at 2:00 p.m.tomorrow.

The university has announced Kim Anderson as the new head men’s basketball coach. He has been the head coach at Central Missouri for the last 12 seasons, with an overall record of 274-94 and seven Division-II NCAA Tournament appearances. Anderson will replace Frank Haith, who recently left for the head coaching job at Tulsa.
YESHIVA UNIVERSITY
The university has announced Elliot Steinmetz as its new head men’s basketball coach. Steinmetz served as head coach of the varsity basketball team at North Shore Hebrew Academy High School for the past three years. In his time at North Shore , he guided the team to a 66-14 overall record and led them to their first ever Metropolitan Yeshiva High School Athletic League championship appearance in 2013. In 2014, he led the team back to the championship game.
DELAWARE STATE UNIVERSITY
University President Harry L. Williams announced that Keith Walker has been hired as the permanent head men’s basketball coach. Walker has been an assistant coach since July 2000. He was named the interim coach on Jan 30, after Greg Jackson was dismissed. In the 11 games following his appointment, he led the team to a 5-6 overall record and 5-5 mark in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Before the appointment, the team was 4-15 overall and 0-6 in the conference. – NCAA.com

It was announced on a press release this morning that Eric Henderson will join the staff as a men’s assistant basketball coach. Henderson most recently served five seasons as the head boys’ basketball coach at Burlington Catholic Central in Burlington, Wis., leading the school to a 21-5 record for the 2013-14 season. He also handled school principal and athletic director duties during his stay in Burlington.

Athletics Director Mike Bergum announced today that Jason Polykoff has been named the new head men’s basketball coach. Polykoff comes from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was the assistant men’s basketball coach for the past two seasons. Prior to that, he spent five seasons as head coach of the Friends Central School. He will be replacing Marcus Gill, who left in February due to his contract not being renewed.

It was announced yesterday that after 25 years as an assistant coach, Bill Walker has taken on the lead role as the new head men’s basketball coach. Walker was an NCAA Division I assistant for 11 years and spent the past season at Drake. Walker replaces Ben Wierzba, who had one winning season out of four. Walker’s salary is $68,500, a considerable increase compared to the $46,947 received by Wierzba for the 2012-13 season. – Marcia Martinez –

The university officially announced yesterday that assistant men’s basketball coach Stacey Palmore will not be returning next season. Palmore had served on the Bulldogs’ coaching staff since May of 2009. He came to Athens after five seasons at Virginia Tech. His collegiate coaching career also includes stops at the College of Charleston, Evansville, Western Carolina, Erskine College and Lander.

Cliff Warren has been hired as the new Director of Men’s Basketball Operations. Warren fills the position that was held by Dustin Clark until Clark was elevated to assistant coach in late November. A native of Silver Spring, Warren spent the past nine seasons as head coach at Jacksonville, where he accounted for a program-record 126 wins and Atlantic Sun championships in 2009 and 2010. – The Baltimore Sun –

Mike Wells will be the new assistant men’s basketball coach, according to The Blade. Wells just completed his 20th year of coaching and spent last season at South Florida as an assistant men’s basketball coach. Prior to USF, he spent after spending 17 seasons in the NBA and two as an assistant at George Mason.

Head women’s basketball coach Marlene Stollings has hired Nikita Dawkins as her new assistant coach, according to an official release on the athletics website. Dawkins will be the first member of Stollings’s coaching staff. Dawkins held the same position under Stollings for two seasons at Virginia Commonwealth University, where she played a significant role in orchestrating one of the largest turnarounds in the nation last season.

Candice Jackson was named the new head women’s basketball coach yesterday. Jackson currently is an assistant women’s basketball coach at Duke University. Prior to that, she spent two seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Wake Forest. During her first two years on Duke’s staff, Jackson helped bring in the seventh-best recruiting class in the nation in 2012. Molly Miller has been named the interim head women’s basketball coach for the 2014-15 season, Athletics Director Pat Atwell announced today. Miller has been an assistant coach for the Lady Panthers for the past two seasons, including the most recent one that produced a 27-4 final record in addition to the program’s third trip to the NCAA-II Elite Eight in its 14-year history. Miller will take over for Steve Huber, who resigned today after a year of having the job to pursue other interests.
UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA AT MONROE
After winning a national championship as quarterback for the football program, Stan Humphries returned to his alma mater and was named the new women’s assistant basketball coach, reports Brandon Rodgers. Humphries comes to the university after coaching the past 12 seasons as a high school girl’s head basketball coach. As a player, Humphries led ULM to the 1987 Division I-AA football national title and is just one of two Warhawks to have his number retired from the program.

As reported first before all other news outlets, sources confirm to College AD that Dan D’Antoni, current Lakers Assistant coach and brother of Lakers Head Coach Mike D’Antoni will become the next head coach at Marshall. Dan, like Mike, is also a Marshall University graduate.

Sources tell College AD that “Marshall Coach Watch 2014” may finally be coming to an end today or tomorrow, as the University looks to make the hire within the next 48 hours. Yesterday we were told EKU head men’s basketball coach Jeff Neubauer was the front runner; however, Neubauer apparently pulled his name from consideration telling his team this morning that he will remain at EKU. Now we are hearing Dan D’Antoni, that’s right, current Lakers Assistant coach and brother of Lakers Head Coach Mike D’Antoni. Dan is also a Marshall graduate.

O’Donnell is a 2004 graduate, and was on the Lions team that won the 2001 Small College National Tournament. He was named 2013 Negaunee Schools Teacher of the Year, as well as Class ABC Coach of the Year by the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association three different years.

Vice President/Director of Athletics Barry Collier announced today that assistant coach Kurt Godlevske has been named interim women’s basketball head coach. Godlevske joined Butler’s staff last season, after spending seven years as girls’ head coach at Bedford North Lawrence High School where he led the team to a 120-41 record. Godlevske replaces former head coach Beth Couture, who was dismissed after a 15-16 campaign. The search for a permanent coach will begin immediately.

Head men’s basketball coach Shaka Smart announced today that David Cason will be added to his staff. Cason was the assistant men’s basketball coach at Vanderbilt University since April of 2011, where he helped lead his team to claiming their first SEC Tournament Championship in 60 years. He replaces Mike Rhoades, who left to become the head coach at Rice University.
MARSHALL UNIVERSITY
Several names have been mentioned for the head men’s coaching job. Our sources say that EKU head men’s coach Jeff Neubauer is the front runner and that two former candidates have been ruled out: WVU assistant men’s coach Ron Everhart and Stephen F. Austin head men’s coach Brad Underwood. It was reported that Underwood is out because he was not interested in the job, and Everhart does not seem to have caught the interest of the university enough.
THE MASTER’S COLLEGE
Ken Sugarman will be the new head men’s basketball coach, announced in a university press release. On top of being an 1992 Alumnus and a member of the men’s basketball team, Sugarman previously served as the head women’s basketball coach from 1995 to 2008. During that time, his teams posted a cumulative record of 266-152 and 88-52 in GSAC play. While at the helm of the Lady Mustangs, led the Lady Mustangs to an NAIA Top 25 ranking over 10 straight years.

Kelly Greenberg, the head women’s basketball coach, is departing from the university. This news was reported by several sources yesterday and was made official this morning, after a panel was put together to investigate and review complaints from former players on abuse. Finishing her 10th season at the helm of the Boston University women’s basketball program, Kelly Greenberg has built the Terriers into one of the most respected and successful programs in the Northeast.

With assistant coach Tom Abatemarco’s hiring becoming official today, head men’s coach Frank Haith continues to assemble his staff. Assistant coach Dave Leitao and strength-and-conditioning coach Todor Pandov already had moved to TU from Missouri, where they were members of Haith’s Tiger staff. Head men’s basketball coach Bobby Hurley has announced that Ben Wood, after serving as the Director of Basketball Operations this past season, has been promoted to assistant coach. In his first season at UB, Wood was responsible for the team’s video operations, coordinating film exchange and opponent breakdowns and edits. He oversaw the team’s community relations program, the staff of team managers, and served as the staff liaison with the academic services office. – Official University Athletics website
UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA WILMINGTON
New men’s head basketball coach Kevin Keatts officially added two men to his staff today: Takayo Siddle and Casey Stanley; both will be assistant men’s coaches and will begin their jobs immediately. Siddle spent the last four seasons as an assistant coach at Gardner-Webb. Stanley, meanwhile, has accumulated a wealth of basketball knowledge and experience at five different institutions in a short amount of time, including spending last season as the Minnesota men’s basketball video coordinator.
MURRAY STATE COLLEGE
Murray State has hired Justin Cellum as the new head women’s basketball coach starting next season. Cellum spent the last several years at Cameron University, receiving a bachelor’s degree in accounting and his master’s degree. He served as a student assistant for Cameron’s women’s basketball team for one year and a graduate assistant. After graduation, he remained with the Aggies as an assistant coach.
ROGERS STATE UNIVERSITY
Head men’s basketball coach Justin Barkley has named Vinay Patel as his new assistant men’s basketball coach, official as of yesterday. Patel is currently the interim head coach at West Texas A&M, where he served since December. He was at West Texas A&M for nine seasons, where he first started as a graduate assistant for the men’s basketball team.
GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY
George Washington has hired Carmen Maciariello as the new assistant men’s basketball coach. Maciariello comes from Boston University where he was assistant coach for three seasons. He has had player experience at the Division I level, as well as serving as the director of basketball operations at two other schools.

Wagner seeks an assistant women’s basketball coach to be responsible for assisting with coaching, and the recruitment and retention of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes. Donnie Tyndall will be hired as the new Tennessee head men’s basketball coach, reports Ben Frederickson from a source close to the situation. Tyndall is currently the head men’s basketball coach at Southern Miss. He has agreed in principle on a $1.6 million per year deal with the university. This deal was a five year offer, but a sixth year is being negotiated. The new coach will officially be announced at 2 p.m. today at a press conference.

Ronald Hughey has been hired as the new women’s head basketball coach, Joseph Duarte reports. Hughey spent the past two seasons at Florida State, serving as an assistant coach and top recruiter on back-to-back NCAA Tournament teams under the head coach. He will be officially introduced tomorrow at 1 p.m. at a press conference

Greg Todd was officially introduced as the new head women’s basketball coach today. The event lasted half an hour and included a large gathering on campus and words from both the Athletics Director Brian Hutchinson and new coach Todd. Todd has served his entire coaching career in Kentucky, including both Transylvania University in Lexington for eight seasons and Lexington Catholic High School for seven seasons. He has spent 22 seasons overall as a collegiate and high school coach, with incredible success.

Sources tell College AD that Stephen F. Austin head men’s basketball coach Brad Underwood was on campus this past week. Underwood just completed one of the most successful seasons in SFA history, compiling a 32-3 record, going 15-0 at home, 18-0 in conference. The Jacks also got a first round win over VCU in the NCAA tournament this past March before losing to UCLA.
