(D2) Mansfield University
- September 5th, 2014— Deb Solfaro, the Senior Associate Athletic Director at NCAA Division I Fairleigh Dickinson University, has been named the Director of Athletics at Mansfield University. Mansfield University President General Fran Hendricks made the announcement this afternoon at a press conference attended by an overflow crowd of student-athletes, staff and supporters. Solfaro was named the Senior Associate Director of Athletics at Fairleigh Dickinson in October 2011 and the Senior Woman Administrator in November 2012. The other two candidates for this AD position were Dr. Rick Goeb, an Athletic Consultant at Rgoeb Sportswide, and Dr. Thom Gioglio, the AD at Bemidji State for 12 years.

- September 5th, 2014— Curt Apsey, senior associate athletic director for Boise State University, has been named the next Director of Athletics at Carroll College, President Tom Evans announced today. Apsey has over 30 years of successful experience in intercollegiate athletics as an athlete, coach and administrator. He has been with Boise State University for the past 16 years serving as the senior associate athletic director for the past nine years. In his tenure at Boise State, Apsey is credited with heading the capital campaign “Initiative for Athletic Excellence” to improve and expand athletic facilities. He will replace Bruce Parker, who left after 11 years in the job for the Rocky Mountain College AD position.

- September 5th, 2014— Sources tell College AD that CVCC will makes its final decision within the next couple of weeks on its new Athletics Director. The job also shares a title of Student Activities Coordinator. Interviews have already taken place. We will update you as we hear more.
(NAIA) Edward Waters College
- September 5th, 2014— Sources tell College AD that EWC will narrow down its search to two candidates. The selected two will arrive on campus and will take part in face-to-face interviews with the search committee, as well as an interview with President Nat Glover. A final decision will be made afterwards. We will keep you updated as we hear more.
(D3) St. Lawrence University
- September 5th, 2014— St. Lawrence University has announced that Director of Athletics and Associate Professor of Sports and Leisure Studies Margaret F. Strait will retire from the University on January 15, 2015 following a career which has included coaching, teaching and athletic administration. In her 17-year career as athletic director, Strait has overseen the addition of seven new athletics teams to the Saints Division III NCAA program: men’s and women’s golf; men’s and women’s crew; men’s and women’s squash and women’s softball. St. Lawrence now offers its student athletes 32 intercollegiate varsity teams with two of its programs, men’s and women’s ice hockey, playing at the NCAA Division I level.

- September 5th, 2014— Cedar Crest College has announced Tyron Taylor will serve as Interim Director of Athletics beginning today. Taylor currently serves as Associate Director of Athletics and head basketball coach. Taylor came to Cedar Crest in 2012 following one year at Chestnut Hill College. A graduate of Misericordia University, Taylor holds a degree in Business and Administration. Taylor has extensive experience in athletic administration and will continue as head basketball coach at Cedar Crest. Cedar Crest will conduct a national search for a permanent Director of Athletics this fall.

- September 4th, 2014— OCC has named soccer and softball coach Kevin Smith as the school’s new Athletic Director, according to the Dean of Kinesiology & Athletics, Dr. Michael Sutliff. After spending several years as an assistant coach with men’s and women’s soccer programs, Smith became the women’s head coach in 2006. Over that nine-year span, Smith guided the Pirates to a 90-55-22 record with five playoff appearances and two trips to the state quarterfinals. Prior to his arrival at Coast, Smith was a teacher and head boys’ soccer coach at Cypress High School since 1998.

- September 4th, 2014— Sara Lillevand Judd was named National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators Division II Administrator of The Year in 2013, and was appointed to the Director of Athletics position in 2012 at California State University, East Bay. Judd has only been the athletic director for two years and has decided to step down this month. She has been a faculty member since 1997 when she was hired as the head women’s basketball coach, and taught as a kinesiology instructor. Judd has a wide array of experience on her hands, which made her the perfect candidate in her current position at CSUEB.

(NAIA) Presentation College
- September 3rd, 2014—PC announced today the appointment of new Athletic Director Greg Heier, the former athletic director at Doane College since 2006, following a national search. There is no date for Heier’s official start but he will be starting his new position at PC as soon as possible. President Dr. Margaret A. Huber said Heier’s experience in both private education and NAIA athletics were some of the reasons for his selection. Heier comes to PC as a two-time Great Plains Athletic Conference Athletic Director of the Year. Heier will direct the overall administrative and operational activities of intercollegiate athletics for Presentation College’s 10 athletic teams.
(D1) University of Arkansas at Little Rock
- September 3rd, 2014—Chris Peterson, who was entering his 15th year as the Trojan’s athletic director sent in his letter of resignation yesterday saying he has been very blessed to work outstanding athletes and coaches, and is looking forward to the next chapter in his life. Peterson ushered in a new era in Trojan athletics in 2005-06 with the unveiling of the Jack Stephens Center. The state-of-the-art 5,600-seat facility became the new on-campus home to the Trojan volleyball and basketball teams. During Peterson’s tenure, the UALR men’s basketball program has graduated 100 percent of its players who have exhausted their eligibility under head coach Steve Shields. -Arkansas Matters-

(D1) University of Evansville
- September 2nd, 2014—Sources tell College AD that Mark Spencer will be the new Athletics Director at the University of Evansville. Spencer was previously the Senior Associate AD for Business Operations at Oregon State. Spencer had been Associate Athletic Director for Business Operations at Oregon State University in August of 2006. Spencer will be replacing John Stanley, who retired in June following seven years in the position. Senior Associate AD Dwight Merilatt had taken interim duties since July 1st.
(D2) Indiana University of Pennsylvania
- September 2nd, 2014— Athletics Director Dr. Frank Condino will retire this December after more than 15 years leading the school’s athletic program. Condino has spent nearly 30 years representing IUP athletics either as an administrator or a coach. He began in 1984 as an assistant football coach, helping IUP to 53 wins and two PSAC championships in six seasons. He moved off the field and into the offices in 1990 as the assistant athletic director and was appointed IUP’s athletic director in July of 1999 after serving on an interim basis for one year. IUP athletics has been one of the top programs in all of the PSAC during Condino’s tenure, racking up a total of 30 team conference championships in eight different sports.
(D2) Franklin Pierce University
- August 31st, 2014— Athletics Director Bruce Kirsh has announced his retirement, effective December 31st. Kirsh’s announcement ends a 43-year run of service at FPU, including 37 years as the AD. A member of FPU’s graduating class of 1971, Kirsh arrived as a student in Rindge in the fall of 1969, and since that time has served a variety of roles. During his time at Franklin Pierce, Kirsh saw teams earn six national championships, 26 NCAA regional championships, 45 conference championships, and 75 all-time NCAA post-season appearances. The University will appoint an interim AD for the Spring semester while it searches for a permanent AD, with an expected start date of July 2015.

- August 29th, 2014— Sources tell College AD that Edward Waters College is conducting interviews for the now-open Athletics Director spot. We have yet to confirm names. We will update you as we hear more.
(NAIA) Faulkner University
- August 29th, 2014— Sources tell College AD that Faulkner University has named Hal Wynn its Acting AD. Wynn is currently the head softball coach and Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance. Wynn is entering his 21st season as the leader of the softball program. Wynn has worked for the university for the past 28 years and has piloted the softball program since its inaugural season in 1992. Information on Faulkner’s AD search plans has yet to be revealed.

- August 28th, 2014— Sources tell College AD that Owens CC is wrapping up phone interviews and is extending campus invites to candidates tomorrow at the earliest. The position has been vacant since Rudy Yovich departed for a similar position at Defiance College. The position has been open since earlier this month. Names will most likely surface soon. We will update you as we hear more.
(D2) Western State Colorado University
- August 28th, 2014— Multiple sources report that Jason Carmichael will be the new Athletics Director. The news was announced today. The other finalists, were West Texas A&M’s Kent Johnson and the University of Findlay’s Steven Rackley. Up until naming Carmichael the new AD, he served as the interim AD as well as Associate Athletics Director for Internal Operations and Compliance. Carmichael began working at WSCU on February 1st, 2013. Carmichael spent the previous four years at Mid-South Community College (MSCC) in West Memphis, Ark. He replaces Greg Waggoner, who left the program back in May.
(D1) Portland State University
- August 28th, 2014— Athletics Director Michael “Torre” Chisholm will be leaving to pursue other career opportunities. Chisholm and administration are developing a plan to insure a smooth transition leading up to his last day, October 31. Coming to PSU in May 2007, he is PSU’s longest tenured athletic director since moving to NCAA Division I. Under Chisholm, PSU has won 21 conference or conference tournament championships, including first-ever trips to the NCAA Tournament for men’s and women’s basketball. He led an overhaul of academic support services for student-athletes, leading to the best Graduation Success Rate and APR scores across the program. The search for a new athletic director will begin this fall.
(NAIA) Life University
- August 28th, 2014— Life will be keeping a familiar face in charge of its athletic department, as John Barrett will be succeeded by longtime lieutenant Bill Firnbach as athletic director. Firnbach, who has been at Life in a variety of roles since 1991, had been the university’s associate athletic director and associate head coach of the Running Eagles’ men’s basketball team. Barrett will remain at Life as the men’s basketball coach, and he will transition into a new role in the office of university president Dr. Guy F. Riekeman. -Marietta Daily Journal-

- August 27th, 2014— Fresno State President Joseph Castro stated that he expects to name a new Athletics Director by Christmas. The new hire will start as early as possible in 2015. Castro also said that a committee will get together in the next few weeks, at that point names of reps will be revealed.
(NAIA) Edward Waters College
- August 27th, 2014— Today, EWC honored Johnny Rembert as he retires as Athletics Director. Rembert led the department for 10 years. Before Johnny Rembert was Athletic Director at Edward Waters College he made his mark as an inside linebacker in the NFL. No announcements have been made yet on his replacement. We will keep you updated as we hear more.

- August 25th, 2014— Sources report that Lisa Goddard McGuirk will be the new athletics director at Gannon. McGuirk is currently the athletics director and head softball coach at Cedar Crest College, having held the positions since July 2012. She replaces Mark Richard, who left the university last month to become the athletics director at the University of Montevallo.
(D2) Stillman College
- August 25th, 2014— Cassandra “CC” Moorer has been named interim director of athletics at Stillman College, starting Tuesday. Paul Bryant left the position after one year to become athletics director at South Carolina State University. His last day was Friday. Moorer is in her fifth year with the Lady Tigers basketball team. Prior to her arrival at Stillman, she was an assistant coach at the University of Alabama from 1997-2005. In 1996, she was drafted by the Women’s National Basketball Association’s New York Liberty and played professionally in Europe from 1986-1994.

- August 23rd, 2014— Head tennis coach Teresa Boylan has been named the Interim Director of Athletics at Sweet Briar College, as announced by Dean Amy Jessen-Marshall this week. Boylan is entering her seventh season as the Vixens’ head tennis coach. She has brought multiple nationally-ranked recruiting classes to Sweet Briar, along with coaching an NCAA national qualifier in 2011.

- August 22nd, 2014— Lynn Dorn, director of women’s athletics at North Dakota State University, has announced her retirement effective March 31, 2015. In Dorn’s tenure as the director of women’s athletics, NDSU’s women’s teams have won seven national titles, 62 North Central Conference titles, 36 Summit League championships and nine conference all-sports trophies, including the Summit League Dr. Helen Smiley Women’s All-Sports Award four straight years.

- August 22nd, 2014— A softball coach and instructor will oversee sports at Illinois Valley Community College at least for the time being. Cory Tomasson is the new interim athletic director. College officials made the announcement Friday. Tomasson has been at IVCC since 1994. He replaces Tommy Canale who left the position this summer. -wlponews-
(D1) Abilene Christian University
- August 22nd, 2014— Athletics director Jared Mosley announced this morning that he will resign to become the new CEO and president of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in Waco. His resignation is immediate, but Mosley will stay on with the university until mid-October while also beginning his new position. President Phil Schubert has not named an interim director, but the search for Mosley’s replacement will begin immediately. Mosley was brought on as AD in June 2004. Since then, he has overseen the transition into Div. I athletics, finalized a three-year deal with Adidas to be the official outfitter of Wildcat athletics and raised the overall student-athlete GPA from 2.74 when he began to 3.0.

- August 22nd, 2014— Ann Walker of Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has been hired as the new athletic director at Clark College. Walker, who begins work in Vancouver, Washington on Sept. 2, was the associate athletic director for compliance and internal operations at Nova Southeastern. She has served for 23 years in athletics in roles ranging from administration to coaching. Walker served as an assistant basketball coach at Creighton University before being hired to head the women’s program at Minnesota State University. - August 21st, 2014— Following a nationwide search, Wells College has hired Michael Lindberg as the Director of Athletics, Provost and Dean of the College Dr. Cindy Speaker announced Thursday afternoon. Lindberg currently serves as the Associate Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Ithaca College where he has served various roles dating back to 1986. Lindberg joins Wells after nearly 30 years at Ithaca, most recently serving as the Associate Director of Intercollegiate Athletics for 27 varsity programs and 80 full-time coaches, staff members and graduate assistants dating back to 1998.

- August 21st, 2014— South Carolina State has hired Paul Bryant of Stillman College as the Bulldogs’ new athletic director. Bryant confirmed in an email to The Associated Press today that he has accepted the job. Bryant takes over for Charlene Johnson, who left in April to take a fundraising position in athletics after 10 years as the school’s first female AD. Octavio Miro had been heading up the athletic department the past four months. Bryant spent the past year in charge of Stillman athletics. Before that, he was athletic director at Eureka College in Illinois for five years. Bryant was also basketball coach and associate director for athletics at Urbana University. -AP-

- August 21st, 2014— Sources tell College AD that Owens CC is in the process of calling candidates to schedule interviews for the AD job, which will start next week. The position has been vacant since Rudy Yovich departed for a similar position at Defiance College. We will update you as names surface.
(D1) New Mexico State University
- August 20th, 2014— Sources tell us that NMSU Athletics Director McKinley Boston will step down after December 31st. Boston’s current contract will extend until that date. In the meantime, he will continue to work with President Garrey Carruthers on a number of issues facing the Athletics Department, including conference realignment, athletic finances and the day-to-day operation of the department. A national search will immediately begin to find the next AD. Carruthers will soon name a search committee with representation from NMSU’s faculty and staff as well as community members. We will update you as we hear more.

- August 20th, 2014— Sources report that, after a two-month-long search, Mark Benson will be the new Athletics Director. Benson was at Old Dominion University for the past 13 years, currently the senior associate athletics director. He replaces Dr. Lee McElroy, who announced his retirement mid-June effective June 30th.
(JC) Southwestern Community College
- August 20th, 2014— Southwestern Community College announced Monday, Todd Lorensen, who was recently named SWCC head men’s basketball coach, has been selected as athletic director/athletic fundraiser for the college. He will continue as men’s basketball coach as well. Lorensen replaces Bill Krejci, who has been a longtime fixture in SWCC athletics. Krejci will leave the college on August 28 to move to Des Moines.

- August 19th, 2014— Multiple sources report that the Athletics Director search has narrowed down even further to four candidates. The chosen candidates will soon have on-campus interviews. The names are as follows: David Crum – Senior Associate AD at Colorado State University, Troy Goergen – Senior Associate AD at NDSU, Matthew Larsen – Senior Associate AD at Stony Brook University, and Stephen Watson – AD at St. Bonaventure University. - August 19th, 2014— Sheridan College men’s basketball coach and athletic director Steve Smiley has accepted an assistant coaching position at Weber State University. Sheridan College assistant coach Matt Hammer will take over as interim head coach and AD. In his six years at Sheridan College, Smiley paced the Generals to an overall record of 153-44, the best in the Region IX conference during that period. Smiley was named the Region IX North Coach of the Year twice. -The Sheridan Press-

- August 19th, 2014— Chicago State University has a new athletic director. Denisha Hendricks, who served six years as athletic director at Kentucky State University, will formally be introduced as the university’s athletic director at a 10 a.m. news conference today at the school’s Jones Convocation Center, 9501 S. King Drive, said Thomas Wogan, a spokesman for Chicago State. Hendricks will replace Dan Schumacher. Prior to working at Kentucky State, Hendricks served as assistant athletic director at Johnson C. Smith University in North Carolina, and senior woman administrator, dean of the Academic Village and an Assistant professor at Livingstone College also in North Carolina. – Wendell Hutson-

- August 18th, 2014— Matt Wells, head women’s basketball coach since 2012, has been selected to serve as the college’s athletic director. A graduate of Western Brown High School, Wells is a veteran on field, court, and diamond. Throughout his high school and college tenure, he played football, basketball, baseball, and tennis. He has 18 years’ experience coaching football, basketball and track for several local high schools, including Western Brown, Williamsburg, Amelia, and East Clinton. Wells is taking on a dual role, serving as both head coach and athletic director. He credits his background in a variety of sports with helping him oversee the department. – The Times-Gazette –

- August 18th, 2014— Paine College announced at a Friday morning that Selina B. Kohn will be the first female athletic director. Kohn previously served as Paine’s associate athletic director and senior women’s administrator. She replaces Tim Duncan, who stepped down last month to become AD at Clayton State. Kohn served two stints as the school’s interim athletic director. Kohn came to Paine in 1998, interviewing for the women’s basketball coach with Spry. By the end of the interview, she got the job. And she got the volleyball job. And then she got another job, assisting the track and field program. In 2011, Kohn was inducted into the Paine College Athletic Hall of Fame.

- August 18th, 2014— Georgia St. named Charlie Cobb its new Athletics Director. Cobb was most recently the Athletics Director at Appalachian State University. During his tenure, App State won three consecutive FCS football national championships and eight consecutive Commissioner’s Cup championships- recognition of the top men’s sports program in the Southern Conference. Cobb’s salary will be $300,000 with potential bonuses for academic and athletic achievements. He signed a five-year contract with an option for an additional two years. Cobb succeeds Cheryl Levick, who stepped down in May to take a position as special assistant to President Mark Becker. Cobb was selected after a national search.
