(D1) Abilene Christian University
- September 26th, 2014— The athletic director search is still in progress, as President Phil Schubert and others are review applicants for the position. The ideal AD will be a leader who can “demonstrate how to weave your faith into the administration”. Another attribute considered in the search for names is experience at the Div. 1 level. Current AD Jared Mosley, who announced his resignation Aug. 22, has been heavily involved in the process. Mosley promised he would stay on with ACU until October to help search for a replacement. -Daniel Zepeda-
(NAIA) Graceland University
- September 26th, 2014— Sources told College AD on Monday that Joe Worlund will be the new Athletics Director at Graceland. This afternoon – four days after we gave the first unofficial announcement- the news became official through a press release. Joe comes with 33 years of experience in athletics and most recently held the Associate Director of Athletics position at Washington University in St. Louis. “I enjoy working with student athletes, on and off the field,” stated Worlund. “It has been my life calling and I believe I can make a difference for Graceland. At Washington University, Worlund spent 15 years as the Assistant Athletic Director before being promoted to Associate AD in July 2010.

(NAIA) Edward Waters College
- September 24th, 2014— Sources tell College AD that the final two names for the Athletics Director spot were selected and sent to President Glover. The process is getting closer to the end, and we can expect a final name sometime soon. We will update you as we hear more.

(NAIA) Graceland University
- September 22nd, 2014— Sources tell College AD that Joe Worlund will be the new Athletics Director. Worlund has been the Associate Athletics Director at Washington University St. Louis, having been in administration there for the past 32 years. Worlund replaces Jeff Falkner, who left for the AD job at New Mexico Highlands University. We are working on full confirmation.
(D1) North Dakota State University
- September 22nd, 2014— Matt Larsen will be the new Athletics Director at NDSU. He officially starts October 14th. He was the final person to interview out of four this past month. Other candidates were David Crum – Senior Associate AD at Colorado State University, Troy Goergen – Senior Associate AD at NDSU, Matthew Larsen – Senior Associate AD at Stony Brook University, and Stephen Watson – AD at St. Bonaventure University. Larsen replaces Prakash Mathew, who became interim AD in June after Gene Taylor stepped down after 13 years to become the deputy athletics director at the University of Iowa.
September 14th – September 20th 2014
(D1) Sacramento State
- September 19th, 2014— President Alexander Gonzalez will retire at the end of the 2015 fiscal year, June 30th, having led the school for 11 years. Sources tell College AD that the new President will most likely hire the new Athletics Director. We also learn from our sources that interim AD Bill Macriss could very well be the next AD. However, if not Macriss, then the job will be posted most likely in the Spring. As far as the successor to President Gonzalez, the search is closed, and a name won’t emerge probably until the Spring.
(JC) St. Louis Community College
- September 18th, 2014— Sources tell College AD about a couple of events in conjunction with the AD Search. Two dates stick out: October 8th which will hold a meet and greet with coaches and athletes, and October 9th which will hold formal interviews with administrators and the AD search committee. We will update you as we hear more.
(D1) North Dakota State University
- September 18th, 2014— Sources tell College AD that the AD search committee will meet tomorrow. They will send their pros, cons, and a summary of the four interviewed candidates to President Dean Bresciani. From this point, all decisions will be up to Bresciani. He will most likely evaluate the candidates and make a decision on a final name early next week. Either David Crum, Troy Goergen, Stephen Watson, or Matthew Larsen will be the new AD.
(NAIA) Edward Waters College
- September 18th, 2014— Sources tell College AD that EWC is in the process of interviewing three candidates for the new AD position. Out of these three, the search committee will narrow the list down to two names. The committee will send these names to President Nathaniel Glover, who will make the final call.
(D1) North Dakota State University
- September 17th, 2014— Sources tell College AD that Matthew Larsen – Senior Associate AD at Stony Brook University completed his final interview Monday. He was the last of the final four to interview. We are told the search committee is meeting later this week to begin making their final decision on the Bison’s next athletic director. We will keep you updated as we hear more.

- September 16th, 2014— Sources tell us that Owens CC has identified their finalists for the vacant AD position. This update comes a couple of weeks after the college wrapped up phone interviews. The position has been vacant since Rudy Yovich departed for a similar position at Defiance College. We are working on full confirmation of names.
Brian Wickstrom
- September 15th, 2014— College AD continues to hear from multiple sources that ULM athletic director Brian Wickstrom is a hot name on many athletic director searches, and for good reason. Wickstrom is making major progress at ULM in just a little over a year on the job in Monroe, all on a modest budget. We hear he is a leading target for Ball State University, as athletic director, Bill Scholl is leaving to become the vice president and director of athletics at Marquette University. Wickstrom has strong ties to the MAC, working at Ohio University and receiving his Doctorate from Eastern Michigan University. It will be interesting to see if someone can lure him away from Monroe. We will keep you in “the know” as we hear more.

(D1) North Dakota State University
- September 12th, 2014— Sources tell College AD that the fourth and final interview will take place next week for the AD position. The following finalists have received interviews: David Crum – Senior Associate AD at Colorado State University, Troy Goergen – Senior Associate AD at NDSU, and Stephen Watson – AD at St. Bonaventure University. The interview to take place next week will be with finalist Matthew Larsen – Senior Associate AD at Stony Brook University. We are told a new athletic director will follow this last round of interviews.
(D1) CSU Bakersfield
- September 12th, 2014— Two finalists have emerged for the AD job: Mr. David Harris, who will meet with community members and CSUB supporters on campus Wednesday, and Mr. Bill Lansden, who will meet with community members and CSUB supporters on campus Tuesday the 23rd. Harris has served as Senior Associate Athletics Director at Iowa State since 2006. Lansden, a veteran athletics administrator who spent nine years as an Associate AD leading the University of Memphis athletics development operation, joined the University of Alabama at Birmingham staff as Senior Associate AD for External Affairs in July 2013.
(D1) Ball State University
- September 12th, 2014— On Monday, a transitions meeting will take place and will include key players from the faculty and athletic staff, according to President Paul Ferguson. This group will help form a 10-member Athletic Director search committee that will represent faculty, athletic staff and administrators, and a student. Ferguson is in no rush to name an interim AD, as AD Bill Scholl will stay until mid-October and the decision will come within the next few weeks. There is indeed a timeline for the hire – to name somebody to put in place by the end of the year. -The Star Press-
(NAIA) College of the Ozarks
- September 12th, 2014— Athletics Director Al Waller will retire at the close of the 2014-2015 school year. Waller has worked at the College for 37 years in a variety of roles. Currently he is serving as Athletic Director, Co-Director of the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball National Championship, and Head Cross Country Coach. Head Men’s Basketball Coach Steve Shepherd will replace Waller as AD beginning June 2015.Shepherd holds an overall record of 261-138 and will continue as Head Coach alongside his Athletic Director responsibilities.
(D1) University of Arkansas at Little Rock
- September 12th, 2014— UALR Chancellor Joel Anderson today named Bob Denman, the school’s vice chancellor for advancement, to be interim athletic director. Chris Peterson resigned after 13 years as director. Denman, a 14-year UALR employee, will continue in his advancement job. Petersons’ resignation is effective Monday. Chancellor Anderson said Denman will serve until a new AD is in place, with January 1, 2015, as the target date. Anderson hopes to have a search process underway by the end of the month. Denman is a 1974 UALR grad and former vice president at KARK TV.
(D1) Colorado State University
- September 12th, 2014— The committee formed to help CSU hire a new athletic director is putting together a list of candidates but won’t narrow that pool to a group of finalists until it knows whether or not the university will continue to pursue an on-campus stadium. A decision on whether or not to move forward with the proposed $254 on-campus stadium is scheduled to be announced at the Oct. 2-3 Board of Governors meeting in Fort Collins, CSU President Tony Frank told a community advisory group on the stadium earlier this week. -Kelly Lyell-
(NAIA) Culver-Stockton College
- September 11th, 2014— The school announced Thursday afternoon Greg McVey had tendered his resignation as athletic director, effective immediately. McVey had served as the leader of the school’s athletic department since 2010 and oversaw substantial projects such as the addition of artificial turf to Ellison Poulton Stadium and the construction of Himsl Field, the home of the C-SC softball program. According to the release, C-SC will begin the search for the next athletic director immediately. -Matt Schuckman-
(D2) Kentucky State University
- September 11th, 2014— KSU athletics has appointed Harry Stinson as interim athletics director. Stinson, who has served as assistant AD for external operations and compliance since 2009, replaces Dr. Denisha Hendricks, who recently accepted the athletic director position at Chicago State University. Prior to coming to KSU, Stinson served as the director of championships, communications and marketing at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) for nearly five years. He also served as interim commissioner during 2008-09.
(D1) Fresno State
- September 10th, 2014— Sources tell College AD that Fresno State has hired DHR International, a search firm based out of Chicago, to find its new Athletics Director. Fresno State will pay DHR Intl. $70,000 to conduct the search. State funding will not be used to pay the contract. The search is now in its first stages, and the firm will start working immediately. Thomas Boeh was the athletics director until he left the post to accept a new role at the university as Special Assistant to the President. President Castro plans to name the next AD by Christmas.
(NAIA) Montana Tech of the University of Montana
- September 10th, 2014— Montana Tech has named Nick Bowsher as interim Athletic Director. Bowsher has been at the university since August 2011 serving most recently as the Assistant Athletic Director of Facilities and Communications. Currently, he directs sports information, marketing, communications, facilities, and game day management in the Athletic Department. He will bring his experience with corporate sales and fundraising to his new interim role. Prior to coming to Montana Tech, he served as the Assistant General Manager of the Helena Brewers Baseball Club, minor league affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. The university will begin the search for a permanent Athletic Director shortly.
(D1) Boston University
- September 10th, 2014— Drew Marrochello, who has served as the head of the Boston University athletic department in an interim role since July, is officially the University’s new Athletics Director. Senior vice president Todd Klipp announced the news to the entire athletic department at a meeting. Marrochello joined BU in 2005 as associate athletic director for internal affairs and a year later was promoted to deputy director of athletics, a position he has held for the past seven years. He replaces Mike Lymch, who left the position as of June 30th after being the AD since 2004.
(NAIA) Montana Tech of the University of Montana
- September 10th, 2014— Montana Tech University officials will announce the name of the school’s interim athletic director today. David Lau, who was hired as the school’s athletic director in May, abruptly resigned his position over the weekend citing personal family issues. Lau was dismissed to replace Charles Bradley, who was fired in January after about seven months on the job. -Al Balderas-

- September 10th, 2014— Athletics Director since 2004, Dr. M. Dianne Murphy has announced that this will be her final academic year at Columbia and she will step down from her position, effective June 30, 2015. Murphy has guided Columbia Athletics through arguably the most successful and transformative period in the history of the athletics program. During Murphy’s 10-year tenure, the Lions captured 26 Ivy League titles in 11 different sports, the most of any decade in Columbia Athletics history. Columbia also won 128 Ivy League Individual event championships, fourth most in the Ivy League during that time period and the most of any span in school history.
(D1) Marquette University
- September 9th, 2014— Bill Scholl, athletics director at Ball State University, will be the new athletics director starting mid-October, President Michael R. Lovell announced. Scholl has led the Ball State Cardinals since 2012, during which eight programs have reached the postseason and 13 teams placed either first or second in the Mid-American Conference. Ball State has boasted four All-Americans in each of his two years and the Cardinals placed 54 student-athletes on all-conference teams in 2013-14, a 14.9-percent increase over Scholl’s first year and a 54.3-percent increase over the year before his arrival.

(NAIA) Montana Tech of the University of Montana
- September 8th, 2014— Montana Tech Athletic Director, David Lau, resigned from his position on Friday, September 5. Lau indicated that he is returning to Missouri for personal family reasons. He became Athletic Director on April 30th. He came from Missouri Western State University, where he arrived as an assistant baseball coach and administrator in 1999. Next week, Montana Tech will provide additional information regarding the administration of the athletic department.
