March 31st- April 5th 2014

(JC) New Mexico Junior College

April 5th, 2014—Sources confirm to College AD that Jeremy Capo, Associate Director of Athletics for Development at Colorado State University Peublo indeed has an offer to become the next Athletic Director at NMJC.
April 4th, 2014—In a shocking turn of events, sources tell College AD that NMJC will not follow up on the interview schedule as first reported. We are told Jeremy Capo, Associate Director of Athletics for Development at Colorado State University Peublo has an offer to become the next Athletic Director at NMJC. We are working on full confirmation.
April 4th, 2014—A source tells College AD that NJMC has had four interviews, as one candidate has dropped out. The search committee will be reducing the number of candidates to two. In the next week or so, the president will be conducting a phone interview with those two candidates on a final decision.

(D2) University of Montevallo

April 4th, 2014—Dawn Makofski, UM assistant athletic director for compliance and senior woman administrator, has been named interim athletic director. Jim Herlihy recently resigned from his position as Montevallo’s athletic director to become the new athletic director at Saint Anselm College in his home state in Manchester, N.H.

(D1) Loyola University Chicago

April 3rd, 2014—Sources tell College AD that Loyola is still in the process of getting organized with regards to their AD Search. Loyola used Parker Executive Search previously when they hired outgoing athletic director Grace Calhoun, so it will be interesting to see if they enlist the search firm’s services again.

(D2) American International College

April 2nd, 2014—Sources tell College AD that the AIC AD search committee has narrowed the field for Director of Athletics, and final candidates are being contacted for interviews which will be conducted in approximately two weeks/mid April. The anticipated start date for the chosen candidate is July 1st.

(JC) New Mexico Junior College

April 1st, 2014—New Mexico Junior College will conduct interviews tomorrow throughout the entire day and Thursday for a Half Day. All five finalists will be interviewing.

(JC) Eastern Wyoming College

April 1st, 2014—Sources tell College AD The final two candidates for Eastern Wyoming should be named today/this week. We’ll keep you updated as we gain more knowledge.

(D2) Post University

March 31st, 2014—Sources tell College AD that Post University has narrowed its candidates for athletic director to eight. Interviews will begin sometime in mid-April and the incoming AD will be chosen over the next couple months with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2014.

(D3) Illinois College

March 31st, 2014—Sources tell College AD that Illinois College will begin reviewing applicants this week. Interviews are expected to begin in mid April with hopes of an offer being extended by mid May. Illinois College has an undisclosed consultant working on the AD Search, but he/she is not part of an executive search firm.

Parker Executive Search

March 31st, 2014—Sources tell College AD that both the University of Hartford and Stony Brook University are targeting sitting athletic directors. We are also told that both universities are using Parker executive search.

March 31st, 2014—Sources tell College AD that Sierra College will interview multiple candidates next week, particularly between April 9th-11th. More to come as we can confirm.

(JC) Eastern Wyoming College

March 27th, 2014—Sources tell College AD Eastern Wyoming has narrowed their candidates to five. They will hold all five Skype interviews on Friday. and they will bring the final 2 to campus some time soon afterwards for face-to-face interviews.

(D1) George Mason University

March 25th, 2014—Tom O’Connor announced he will retire after 20 years as George Mason’s athletic director and 40 years in NCAA Division I athletics. “A Patriot legend is retiring,” said Ángel Cabrera, president of George Mason University. “Tom has devoted his career to building an athletic department that has made this university proud.” He will step down this summer. (D2) Augustana College

March 27th, 2014—Augustana College names Slade Larscheid Director of Athletics. Larscheid replaces Bill Gross who after 28 years as Augustana’s athletic director stepped down to take a position in the college’s Advancement Office as a Senior Gifts Officer.
March 26th, 2014—Sources tell College AD that Slade Larscheid, the activities director at Roosevelt High School and previously an associate athletic director at South Dakota State, will be introduced Thursday as the next director of athletics at Augustana College.

March 26th, 2014—Sources tell College AD New Mexico Junior College will bring the five final candidates in for face-to-face interviews next week, Wednesday and Thursday. Doug Palmer, formally of Shoreline Community College is amongst the five final face-to-face interviews.

(D3)Lewis And Clark College

March 25th, 2014—Shana Levine, currently associate athletic director at Washington and Lee University in Virginia, has been named director of physical education and athletics at Lewis & Clark. Levine is a Washington and Lee graduate and holds a J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. She currently oversees athletics facilities, recreation, and compliance at Washington and Lee, where she has been associate director since 2008. She will begin her tenure at Lewis & Clark by July 1.

March 25th, 2014—Steven Card has been hired as the new director of athletics at Western Washington University, the school announced in a press release on Tuesday, March 25. Card has served as the interim athletics director at Western since last May, and succeeds Lynda Goodrich, who retired last May after 26 years as athletics director.

March 24th, 2014—McMurry University has named Sam Ferguson of Averett University in Danville, Virginia, as the school’s new athletic director. He will begin his duties on May 1. Ferguson served as Averett University’s director of athletics for five years from 2006-2011, supervising a 14-team athletics department that included approximately 300 student-athletes and nearly 40 full and part-time employees.

March 21st, 2014—USF has announced Josh Snyder, senior associate athletic director for compliance at University of Missouri-Kansas City as their next Athletic Director

March 19th, 2014—Sources tell College AD that Sioux Falls has cut their of field of applicants today and will introduce their new Athletic Director at press conference Friday.

(D2) Southern Connecticut State University

March 19th, 2014—Director of Athletics, Patricia Nicol has resigned to take the Emerson College director of athletics post.

(D3) Anna Marie College

March 18th, 2014—Sources tell College AD, Anna Maria College has just today narrowed the field of candidates. We’ll keep you updated as we hear more.

(D3) Emerson College

March 18th, 2014—Emerson has hired Patricia Nicol to be its new athletic director, according to Dean of Students Ronald Ludman, and a statement released by the college today. Nicol is currently serving as the athletic director at Southern Connecticut State University.

As you may remember we reported in February that there were four finalists for the position, interim AD Stanford Nance, Tim Wheaton, an associate athletic director at Harvard University, Patricia Nicol, the nine-year-tenured athletic director of Division 2 Southern Connecticut State University, and Sarah Feyerherm of Washington College in Maryland, a Division 3 school.

March 17th, 2014—Sources tell College AD, Sierra College will have their AD interviews on April 9-11, with April 9-10 being preliminary interviews, and April 11th being the final interviews. We hear former Shorline CC athletic Director Doug Palmer will interview.

(NAIA) Cardinal Stritch University

June 16th, 2014— Nearly two months into the AD search, a final candidate has yet to emerge. Sources tell College AD that Cardinal Stritch has just made some cuts, so candidate list is getting much narrower. Since the position is expected to start on August 1st, a name is expected to be revealed in the upcoming weeks.

(D3) UC Santa Cruz

June 16th, 2014— Sources tell College AD that the university is conducting interviews this week for the AD position. Interviews will be conducted in a variety of ways. The selection process will most likely be narrowed down to a few candidates next week. The final candidate will be guaranteed the job for a three year minimum, the athletics department reportedly having the potential to be shut down after that time. Stay tuned as we keep you updated.

(D1) North Dakota State University

June 16th, 2014—Sources tell College AD, recently retired Vice President of Student Affairs Prakash Mathew will be the Interim Athletic Director for athletics. Mathew, had announced his intention to retire June 30, 2014. Mathew began working at NDSU in 1976.

(D1) University of Albany

June 16th, 2014—After 14 years with the University at Albany athletic department, Dr. Lee McElroy has announced his retirement as the program’s Director of Athletics, effective June 30. During his time with the Great Danes, McElroy also served as Vice President for Athletic Adminstration and is a member of the University Executive Committee. An expedited national search for a new Director of Intercollegiate Athletics will begin as soon as possible.

(D1) North Dakota State University

June 16th, 2014— NDSU sources have confirmed to Valley News Live that Athletics Director Gene Taylor is stepping down after 13 years to become the deputy director for the intercollegiate athletics program at the University of Iowa. Under Taylor, NDSU has produced 64 CoSIDA Academic All-America® awards, three NCAA Woman of the Year nominees, and 18 NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship winners. He also guided NDSU through the transition from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I. Taylor will remain the athletic director at North Dakota State through the month of July.

(D1) UC Santa Barbara

June 13th, 2014— Sources tell College AD that UC Santa Barbara athletic director Mark Massari will be stepping down next week to take a position at Oregon State University. We hear that Massari will be taking the senior associate ad for development position which was vacated by Shawn Heilbron last month when he departed for the ad position at Stony Brook University. We cannot confirm the exact position Massari will fill at this point. Massari has been the athletic director for UC Santa Barbara since August 2008, when Chancellor Henry Yang appointed him. We are told the official announcement from UC Santa Barbara is set for Wednesday, June 18th.

(JC) Northwest Mississippi Community College

June 13th, 2014— In addition to his men’s basketball duties, Northwest has named Bubba Skelton as its new athletic director. He was named the interim athletic director on April 1. Skelton led the Rangers to a 13-11 overall mark and an 8-4 record in the MACJC North Division last season. The Rangers also advanced to both the state and region tournaments for a second consecutive season.

(NAIA) Faulkner University

June 13th, 2014— Faulkner head football coach and athletic director Brent Barker resigned Thursday, having accepted the athletic director’s position for the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw Independent School District just north of Fort Worth in his home state of Texas. “The chance to continue my career with a wonderful school district back home was just too much to pass up”, says Barker. In his new position, Barker will oversee athletics for three high schools, five middle schools, and 17 elementary schools.

(D1) Georgia State University

June 13th, 2014— Georgia State will use Parker Executive Search to handle the hunt for its next athletic director. The two sides agreed to work together on June 10, according to a copy of the letter of understanding between the two parties obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution through an Open Records Request. Georgia State will pay $70,000 to use Parker. Athletic director Cheryl Levick announced earlier this month that she will transition to a new role as special assistant to President Mark Becker on July 1.

(JC) Southwestern Illinois College

June 13th, 2014—Sources tell College AD that the AD search is narrowed down to five candidates. The position has been open since May 27th, when Jay Harrington announced he will be retiring. Interviews will be conducted Friday June 20th, and a final candidate is expected to emerge within the next few weeks. We will update you as we hear more.

(D2) Gannon University

June 12th, 2014—Gannon University has announced that Mark Richard, athletics director for the past five years, will leave the University next month to become athletics director at the University of Montevallo. University officials said that a decision will be made soon about the appointment of an interim director of athletics, and as the search for Richard’s successor begins. We will keep you updated as we hear more on the search.

(JC) Salt Lake Community College

June 12th, 2014—Salt Lake Community College has named Kevin M. Dustin as the College’s new director of athletics, overseeing the College’s nationally competitive five-sport program. Dustin will replace Norma Carr, who announced her retirement in early March after 25 years at the helm of the program.

(D1) Oakland University

June 12th, 2014—Sources tell College AD that the search committee has completed its evaluations and interviews. Three candidates have been forwarded to the Interim President Dr. Betty J. Youngblood for her consideration. We are told the search committee did not rank the final three candidates in any order, leaving Dr. Youngblood to choose the best candidate to lead the Golden Grizzlies. We’ll keep you updated as we hear more.

(D3) Washington & Jefferson College

June 12th, 2014—Director of Athletics Bill Dukett has announced his plans to retire as of June 30. Dukett has been with the W&J since 1982 as a football coach, track & field coach, golf coach, development officer and most recently, director of athletics since 2006. As the associate head coach on the Presidents’ football staff from 1982-1998, Dukett helped lead W&J to a record of 137-37-2, including 14 Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championships and two appearances in the Stagg Bowl.

(D3) Millsaps College

June 10th, 2014—Georgia is set to lose one of its top young athletic administrators. Josh Brooks, associate athletic director for internal operations, is expected to be announced as the new athletic director at Millsaps College. Athletic director Greg McGarity has called Brooks a “rising star in athletic administration.” Brooks was a finalist last year for the AD job at Louisiana-Monroe. Georgia promoted Brooks from director of football operations to assistant athletic director and then later to associate athletic director. -Marc Weiszer-

June 10th, 2014—Sources tell College AD that New Mexico Military Institute is conducting “stage two” interviews. We can confirm interviews were held yesterday and we hear the rest of the interviews will be conducted this week.

(D3) Lynchburg College

June 9th, 2014—Sources tell College AD that Lynchburg concluded phone interviews last week for the position of Athletic Director. We are told that the narrowed list of candidates will be making their way to campus “shortly”.
