In December of 2014 Arizona State and adidas announced a new eight-year apparel partnership, effective July 1, 2015, to June 30, 2023. Arizona State will get between $1.2 million and $1.7 million in cash each year as a “sponsorship payment,” but $3 million of that came in a one-time payment made last academic year. The university also will get between $600,000 and $1.375 million each year for “activations” designed to drum up support and excitement for athletic programs and between $4.3 million and $5.85 million per year in adidas merchandise. This academic year Arizona State will get $5.75 million in cash and merchandise from adidas, more than triple the $1.8 million it got in the final year of its Nike deal in 2014-15. The contract also guarantees Arizona State at least $350,000 a year in royalties on the sale of Arizona State-branded adidas merchandise. -Matthew Kish, Portland Business Journal, Read More
