Raise the Bar: When asked about Amy Folan’s impact on her department and University, the responses seem to be the same. Amid the complexity and sheer volume of work that goes into managing and growing the Longhorn Foundation membership and fundraising, managing special projects and supporting the work of Texas Athletics’ AD, Folan is a champ. Known for her results-driven philosophy and motivational leadership style, Folan continuously raises the bar.
“I think success is doing your best and then always getting better,” Folan reflects, “I think what drives me is helping others and making things better tomorrow than they are today.”
Continuing to strive for excellence took Folan from student-athlete to compliance officer and eventually to the NCAA. Austin welcomed her with open arms in 2003, hoping to leverage her know-how into a successful tenure with the university. Now, with over fifteen years as an administrator, Folan has proven herself a sound investment. She has served in a variety of capacities, moving where needed to maximize her talents. From strategic planning to philanthropy, Folan seems to excel at it all. Ultimately, Folan has found her place as the Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director.
Under Folan’s leadership, The Longhorn Foundation membership and funds raised have hit record-setting heights. Her years working in athletic compliance has yielded a high-performing, accountable team that credits her encouraging attitude, high expectations and personal commitment for their success. In 2010, Amy Folan was awarded the University of Texas Outstanding Supervisor Award, a true show of the respect she’s garnered from the Texas family. Athletics Director DeLoss Dodds sums it up best, “Amy’s group has great credibility. And what she and her staff have done with us has been great.”
And it’s this credibility that will continue to propel Folan forward. “I give my best, serve others and pass it on.” A simple philosophy, but often easier said than done, but not for Folan. We are confident that the bar and her success will continue to rise as her career carries on. Folan sees herself evolving over time, “There’s always a bigger picture. I’m always looking for ways to better serve others through my experiences. Whether it’s being a mentor or sharing life experience. The more breadth and depth you have, the better equipped you are to help handle and navigate whatever problems come the next day.”
We’re excited to see someone like Amy Folan shape leaders today for the issues of tomorrow. We are proud to honor her as a NEXT UP awardee and look forward to see just how high that bar can go. Congratulations to UT’s Amy Folan!
