June has come and gone and within the thirty-day period, college athletics highest level experienced eight leadership changes during the month. Six athletic departments welcomed a new AD while two others have begun the process of finding the next man or woman to lead the way.
Utah
Utah announced the hiring of former South Florida boss Mark Harlan on June 1. Harlan replaces Chris Hill who is retiring after leading the Utes for the past 31 years. Harlan officially began his new job on July 1.
Jackson State
Jackson State turned Ashley Robinson to lead the Tigers department. Robinson, a Jackson native had spent the previous five years at Praire View A&M serving as athletic director. Robinson’s tenure officially got underway on July 1.
Fairleigh Dickinson
Fairleigh Dickinson University Director of Athletics, David Langford announced intentions retire from his role at the University effective June 28. Langford has led the FDU department for the past 15 years. Cathy Liggett will serve in an interim role as a national search for Fairleigh Dickinson’s new director of athletics is conducted.
Delaware State
Dr. David “Scott” Gines was selected as the new Delaware State AD. Gines comes to DSU after spending serving as Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics and Campus Recreation at Division II Texas A&M Kingsville.
Fresno State
Fresno State announced the hiring of Terrance Tumey as the Bulldogs new AD. Tumey comes to Fresno State from Division III Claremont McKenna-Harvey Mudd-Scripps where he had served as director of atheltics since March of 2016.
St. John’s
On Friday, June 22, Anton Goff announced that he would be stepping down from his post as Red Storm AD. Associate Vice President for Athletics Kathleen Meehan will serve as interim AD until the school can find a replacement.
Maryland
Maryland decided to stay in-house selecting Damon Evans to serve as AD. Evans had been in the role on an interim basis. The former Georgia athletic director replaces Kevin Anderson.
South Florida
It took less than a month for USF to find its replacement for Mark Harlan who departed at the beginning of the June. The Bulls turned to former College Football Playoff Chief Operating Officer Michael Kelly to lead the department. Kelly had served as the College Football Playoff’s COO since 2012.
