Southern University at New Orleans’ search for a new athletic director concluded with the hiring of former St. Augustine coaching legend Bernard Griffith following a nationwide search. During his tenure at St. Augustine, Griffith, 68, led the basketball team to three Class 5A state championships in 1992, 1995 and 1999. Formerly, Griffith spent three seasons as head coach at Sarah Towles Reed following a two-year stint as assistant coach of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks.
