Alcorn State University director of athletics Derek Horne was selected to be a part of the Limited Resource Institutions Director of Athletics Task Force by the NCAA. Horne was one of eight AD’s in the country from LRI Universities to be chosen. The mission of the task force is to develop a sense of community among participating director of athletics from schools that are not fully funded. The task force provides opportunities for discussion of what student-athlete academic success means and strategies that support that success; discussion on coach accountability for academic success; sharing strategies for bridging the gap between athletics and the larger campus community; developing strategies for highlighting the success of limited-resource institutions and historically black colleges and universities; sharing the best practices for developing and using resources; discussion of the role and responsibilities of directors of athletics.
