Detroit Mercy basketball coach Ray McCallum has been relieved of his coaching duties, athletic director Robert Vowels announced this afternoon. “After a careful and long review of the entire men’s basketball program I determined it was necessary to have a change in leadership,’’ Vowels told the Free Press. “I would like to thank Coach McCallum for his eight years of service at the university and for all his efforts. McCallum just finished eight years of service in the athletic department and the community.’’ The move comes with a year left on McCallum’s contract. Assistant coaches Steve Payne and Jay Smith also were let go. Jermaine Jackson remains as an assistant and is in charge until a new coach is hired. -Perry A. Farrell, Detroit Free Press– Read More
