There were plenty of positives for both the men’s and women’s basketball teams at Kentucky this season. The men won 27 games, beat Duke and Louisville, staged a thriller (albeit an overtime loss) at Kansas and won a share of the SEC regular-season title, then rewarded a horde of Wildcats fans in Nashville by winning the conference tournament. The women won 25 games, overcame massive attrition, a shallow bench and a midseason slump – they lost 6 of 10 games at one point – to earn two weekends at home in the NCAA tournament, in part because they found a way to win 8 of 9 games down the stretch. But both teams’ seasons ended suddenly, unexpectedly, disappointingly. The men fell to Indiana in the second round of the NCAA tournament, marking the first time in six trips under coach John Calipari that the Cats didn’t reach at least the Elite Eight. The women were upset by seventh-seeded Washington at Rupp Arena in the Sweet 16. -Kyle Tucker,courier-journal.com– Read More
