Since Gov. Matt Mead unveiled his budget proposal on Dec. 1, recommending $8 million in matching funds for University of Wyoming athletics, UW Athletic Director Tom Burman has kept quiet. On Monday evening, Burman spoke out. “I felt it was important to clarify some misinformation that has been spewed about UW Athletics — multiple media outlets have been commenting about the ($8 million) Cowboy Joe Match ($4 million annually) that Governor Mead supported as well as (the Joint Appropriations Committee),” Burman wrote. “The match started in 2014 with ($1 million) and then ($4 million) added last session so this is not ‘new’ money and in fact it is a 20 (percent) reduction from where we operate today.” – Ryan Holmgren, TRIB.
