Frank Holloway, an NCAA Division II basketball player at Slippery Rock, says the NCAA isn’t using common sense in denying him a sixth year of eligibility due to a medical hardship stemming from his time at a junior college. Holloway, said the NCAA denied his appeal to play this season, citing a lack of documentation for a foot injury he suffered in 2011-12 while at Garrett College in Maryland. Though he submitted letters from several former coaches indicating that he was held out in 2011-12 due to injury, Holloway said the NCAA wanted information from a doctor that he was unable to provide. Mostly it appears Holloway is a victim of bad luck and circumstances, but his story illustrates the sometimes rigid yet inconsistent constraints of NCAA rules related to hardship waivers and how a player can easily get lost in the shuffle. – Dan Wolken, USA Today, Read More
