Longtime University of Mary Athletic Director Al Bortke died Sunday. He was 78. Bortke served as the school’s first Athletic Director in 1973 and continued in that role until 2008. He also was U-Mary’s men’s basketball coach from 1973-89 before he focused solely on his Athletic Director duties. Bortke died at CHI St. Alexius Health.
