Wednesday is the 10th anniversary of AD Mike Holder Holder’s step from golf to administration — a move that was strongly and publicly supported by OSU alumnus and super-donor T. Boone Pickens. Holder said he and Pickens were motivated by “an intense desire to do better in football.” As a new AD in 2005, Holder is said to have been a bull-in-a-china-shop type of department head. Change usually requires a process, but Holder didn’t want the process. He only wanted change and progress. Now, Holder is said to be less volatile and more trusting of and patient with athletic department employees. Holder’s first victory in facility development occurred long before he became the athletic director. In 1994, as a result of his concept and his fundraising, OSU’s Karsten Creek Golf Club property initially was a $6 million development. -Bill Haisten, Tulsa World, Read More
