Jim Spartano will be honored for the athletic career that gave him his start when he is inducted into the SUNY Oneonta athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, Sept. 12. Spartano was as UC’s Athletic Director from 1982 through 2011, and also was head coach of the Pioneers’ baseball and men’s and women’s basketball teams during his tenure. He moved to Utica College to coach the men’s basketball team in 1973, and became Athletic Director nine years later. During his tenure, UC expanded its athletic program from 12 to 25 intercollegiate varsity teams.
