[Updated (8/14/15 @ 9:57 am): College AD has confirmed that Jeremy McClain will become Troy’s next Athletic Director.]
Counting down to the 11:00 AM CST announcement for Troy’s next athletic director, sources tell College AD that Jeremy McClain, Deputy Athletic Director at the University of Southern Mississippi will become the Trojans next Athletics Director. College AD is working to fully confirm the information.
McClain joined the Southern Miss staff in October of 2012 as the Deputy Director of Athletics. In his current role, McClain oversees the day-to-day operations of the department and his direct responsibilities include revenue generation, which includes licensing, corporate development, fundraising and ticket sales. The areas under his supervision include marketing, communications, development and ticketing. In 2013, under his direction, the department set fundraising records for the annual fund of $2 million and another $8 million for the overall athletic foundation. He also has been responsible for securing funding and supervising major facility projects, including: a track renovation, a football turf replacement, the baseball weight room project, a golf practice facility and the Reed Green Coliseum renovation project.
Before joining the staff at Southern Miss, McClain served as Director of Athletics at Delta State University, beginning in 2007. While at Delta State, McClain developed a plan to increase services and assist in personal development of the school’s 350 student-athletes through the expansion of the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
McClain also was able to increase donations to the school’s athletic department, securing funding for the first phase of DSU’s Athletic Master Plan, as well as for a scoreboard renovation at Parker Field-McCool Stadium, Ferriss Field, University Field and Sillers Coliseum. Delta State’s on-field successes also increased under McClain. During his tenure, the Statesmen and Lady Statesmen claimed seven Gulf South Conference championships, five NCAA Regional crowns and 21 NCAA postseason appearances. In 2010, the football team appeared in the NCAA Division II National Championship and in 2012, the baseball team earned a runner-up finish at the NCAA DII College World Series.
In an extremely well guarded search, virtually nothing has come out on candidates. College AD identified three candidates for the position August 3rd.
